The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences within the UW School of Medicine is the third largest clinical department within the School of Medicine with 330 full-time faculty members, 460 courtesy faculty members, and over 350 staff. Department faculty provide clinical services in 5 hospitals, 14 primary care locations, and several outpatient sites in addition to telepsychiatry consultations to more than 150 clinics in Washington and beyond. As the only academic psychiatry department serving the five state WWAMI region (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, Idaho), the Department’s highly competitive residency training program is largely responsible for developing the mental health workforce in the Pacific Northwest. The Department’s robust research portfolio totals $67 million in grants and contracts per year for projects ranging from clinical neurosciences to treatment development to health policy and population health. The Department is recognized as an international leader in developing, testing, and implementing Collaborative Care, an integrated care model increasingly seen as a solution for population-based mental health care. Other areas of excellence include Addictions, Autism, High Risk Youth, Neurosciences, and Trauma, and the Department is developing innovative new programs in Technology and Mental Health, Global Mental Health, Maternal and Child Mental Health, and Targeted Intervention Development. Psychiatry is the third largest department in the School of Medicine and the largest non-divisioned department. The overall annual operations funding from all sources is over $130 million.

The Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences within the UW School of Medicine currently has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Manager.

The Pravetoni Lab is a World Leading team that pioneered research in biologics for treatment of substance use disorders and overdose. In addition, the Center for Medication development for substance use disorder and overdose is the only UW entity dedicated solely to research, training, commercialization and clinical implementation related to substance use disorders and overdose. We interface and work collaboratively with policy makers, leaders, and other key stakeholders at the national, state, and local levels, focused on pursuing FDA approval of novel treatment for OUD and overdose. The person in this position will be highly visible in these settings and will represent either Dr. Pravetoni or the administrators of the UW Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.

This is a fully remote position. Collaborators are spread throughout various US states. All CDMO and CRO are in other states (*USA), plus other countries (Canada, Europe). Occasional on-site visits will be required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Provide project management and technical support for clinical manufacturing development program to ensure goals and milestones are achieved on time and within budget:

  • Manage Contractors (CDMO and CRO) timeline, budget, and milestones. (5%)

  • Ensure regulatory compliance of clinical programs by reviewing and staying up to date with guidance from regulatory authorities. (10%)

  • Contribute to the organization and detailed writing of regulatory documentation. (10%)

  • Oversee research projects including directing staff, leading meetings, reviewing/preparing experimental plans and protocols, and communicating results and progress to principal investigators. (10%)

  • Manage and develop external service contracts with contract testing, research, and manufacturing organizations, and related facility audits, project budgets, purchase orders, and invoices. (5%)

  • Foster and establish relationships with vendors, academic and industry scientific collaborators, and funding organizations. (10%)

  • Identify and track relevant funding opportunities and prepare, coordinate, develop and contribute to detailed writing of applications. (10%)

  • Work closely with principal investigators and collaborators to ensure research group alignment and to achieve and advance research goals. (10%)

  • Write, review, and establish standard operating procedures. (5%)

  • Train and mentor staff and students on relevant research activities and methodologies, use of specialized equipment, and standard operating procedures, and provide guidance on experimental plans, manuscripts, and data analysis. (10%)

  • Work with university administrative units, including accounting, procurement, grants administration, technology commercialization, and general counsel to ensure research group compliance with university policies and procedures. (10%)

  • Communicate research group accomplishments by preparing manuscripts, posters, and presentations to disseminate findings to external stakeholders. (5%) Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for supervising staff in the Pravetoni laboratory including: 1) staff scientists at RS1-3, and 2) post docs and other trainees.

  • Take on supervisory responsibilities as needed: e.g., train undergrad or junior scientists (R1) in protein engineering, and use of instruments related to protein engineering (e.g., DSF, or Akta/SEC assays). MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Neuroscience, or a related field. Equivalent experience cannot substitute for degree requirement. Minimum five years of relevant work experience.

  • Experience engaging and supervising contractors, managing contracts to make GMP-grade vaccines and antibodies, and testing them under GLP regulations to satisfy the FDA requirements for IND. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Understanding of the CMC section of IND for biologics, and GLP tox section of the IND. Advanced expertise in antibody engineering.

  • Nine or more years of relevant work experience.
