Amazon Software Development Manager III, Internal Audit Engineering (BRIAR) in Seattle, Washington

Description

The Business Risk Intelligence, Analytics, and Report (BRIAR) team is looking for an experienced Software Development Manager to help us build a suite of high-value internal services and applications for the Internal Audit organization. You will tackle problems with a high degree of ambiguity, and will be able to raise the bar by defining the execution strategy of the team, providing valuable coaching to engineers, and giving tactical guidance to ensure that deliverables exceed stakeholder expectations.

As part of Internal Audit, the BRIAR team is responsible for creating and maintaining custom software that serves Amazon’s internal auditors and risk assessment experts. Our stakeholders interface with every aspect of Amazon to understand, analyze, and evaluate the various businesses within the company and it is BRIAR’s goal to provide functional, reliable, user-friendly tools to assist in their daily functions.

As a team, BRIAR is at a crossroads of many engineering disciplines. Both ongoing and upcoming projects include significant overlap between traditional data engineering (data pipelines, data modeling, data parsing), service development (building services that interact with and manipulate our data), and user interface development (building accessible, responsive, easy-to-use websites for our customers to perform their daily functions). The team takes cross-functional skill growth very seriously, and you will be expected to partner with department SMEs in guiding the engineers through developing these multi-domain applications.

Key job responsibilities

  • Participate actively in the SDLC of the team: providing technical guidance, reviewing documentation, performing code reviews, removing blockers, and facilitating planning and retrospective meetings.

  • Engage with stakeholders through demonstrations, presentations, direct communication, and documentation to provide visibility into the progress of projects.

  • Provide weekly coaching and mentoring for your directs that spans concrete deliverables to industry best practices.

A day in the life

Every day, you can expect to:

  • Lead your team through the daily SDLC which you have helped to define. Identifying blockers and dispatching them, providing guidance to your reports, and performing technical reviews are the daily norm.

  • Be the voice for your team. You will communicate progress, engage stakeholders, and demonstrate the high-quality work which you will have helped foster.
