We are looking for a talented business intelligence engineer who is curious, driven, and passionate about data, marketing and optimization. This cross-functional role will support media, science, engineering and finance teams by building the relevant tools and dashboards to drive faster decision making. You will be a strategic thinker with the ability to understand business strategy, provide business analysis, and demonstrate technical aptitude to create insightful and effective reporting. You should have technical skills, project management skills and the ability to multi-task and thrive in an energizing environment. As a trusted senior engineering leader, you will be given some of the most difficult data management, visualization and insight generation problems to solve.

As a Business Intelligence Engineer, you will operate as a mix of hands-on builder, and influencer. While you will spend the bulk of the time spent as a builder for delivering your own data processing solutions but will be expected to work closely with business stakeholders to gather requirements on the ideal solution. As a mentor, you will be a strong partner with science, product and engineering managers, supporting the skill and career development of junior scientists and engineers and educating the broader tech community strategic role of scientific innovations in furthering the advertising business.

• Drive the design, development, and maintenance of innovative and scalable intelligence solutions across the organization, with the highest standards of analytical rigor and data integrity.

• Develop domain expertise and drive major contributions to our data and research roadmap. Leverage SQL, ETL, Redshift, and other available tools to uncover deep business insights, trends, and opportunities to innovate on behalf our customers.

• Partner with data engineering to build best-in-class data architecture and pipelines to support analytics needs.

• Translate ambiguous business problem statements into actionable analytical solutions. Manage large scale data requests and projects to define requirements, manage timelines, and coordinate activities with other involved team members.

• Mentor and develop other analytics team members.

• Define and deliver reporting that supports the analytical needs of internal business leaders.

• Instrument measurement of key KPIs for the organization.

• Serve as business lead for the internal reporting. Provide business requirements across all business reports.

• Ensure clear communication and coordination across the business, finance and technical teams.

• Understand system inter-dependencies and limitations as well as analytic inter-dependencies to build efficient solutions.

A day in the life

You will work with Product Managers, Marketing Managers, Media Strategists, Data Engineers, Data Scientists, and Economists. You will maintain pipelines and dashboards central to the decision-making of the marketing organization. Successful candidates in this role will have a deep understanding of media operations and reporting data and also work regularly with data engineering, software engineering, and product management teams to inform and drive business decisions for our business. Operations and media teams use our data to ensure marketing campaigns are delivering on their intended goals while product manager utilize our insights to drive key product decisions.

About the team

Our team is the technology center of excellence within cross-channel cross-category marketing organization to develop internal tools and insights to make Amazon’s marketing efforts 1) Better (i.e., customer-centricity), 2) Faster (i.e., reducing latency, increasing execution speed), and 3) More Efficient (i.e., driving effectiveness and perceptions)

Basic Qualifications

  • 7+ years of professional or military experience

  • 5+ years of SQL experience

  • Experience programming to extract, transform and clean large (multi-TB) data sets

  • Experience with theory and practice of design of experiments and statistical analysis of results

  • Experience in scripting for automation (e.g. Python) and advanced SQL skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working directly with business stakeholders to translate between data and business needs

  • Experience managing, analyzing and communicating results to senior leadership

  • Experience with AWS solutions such as EC2, DynamoDB, S3, and Redshift

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $104,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $202,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
