Amazon UX Design Manager, Home & Lifestyle Innovation Team in Seattle, Washington

The Home & Lifestyle Innovation Team (HLIT) is on a mission to elevate the shopping experience and eliminate barriers for customers seeking products that support their highly personal and complex needs for home - such as home furniture and decor and customized/personalized items - whether shopping for themselves, seeking gifts for a special occasion, or managing heavy/bulky item deliveries. We are looking for a UX Design Manager to join our team in leading designers to create groundbreaking experiences for customers in these scenarios, from navigating the complexities of knowing what to get, to configuring what it looks like, to making sure its received just how you want it. You’ll also have opportunities to learn and grow through direct partnership with your senior manager, UX designers, researchers, product managers, engineers, and more disciplines – all working together on the front line of new tech innovations like AI, machine learning, and 3D visualization.

Key job responsibilities

As a UX Design Manager, you will be responsible for leading with your team to set strategic direction, apply empowering and growth-minded operations, and uphold high quality standards across multiple, complex products and programs within the organization. In your day-to-day, you will be expected to:

• Nurture a team of designers to deliver high quality end-to-end experiences (user flows, wireframes, prototypes, high-fidelity visuals) through clear direction, insisting on high standards, and attention to detail

• Present durable, objective points-of-view to senior leaders, executives, product teams, and the broader organization that persuade and inspire teams to take concerted, informed actions

• Responsibly and effectively advocate for the customer in a corporate environment; fostering a shared understanding of the customer-centric intersection between design, technology and business

• Identify and drive forward opportunities to align, simplify, connect, and empower experiences across retail teams and organizations

• Analyze customer behaviors, identify opportunities to solve problems, and create cohesive, best-in-class experiences to our most challenging and high impact areas

• Contribute to the growth of our design culture by improving team practices, elevating design understanding, supporting hiring, and driving designers’ career development

Basic Qualifications

  • 6+ years of design experience

  • 3+ years of leading design teams experience

  • Experience managing teams

  • Experience with a variety of design tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks, Visio, Axure, and Dreamweaver

  • Experience leading design teams in problem definition, artifact rendering, cross-functional collaboration and delivery, and user validation and measurement

  • Experience working cross-team and synthesize feedback and input from product management, engineering, testing, and marketing

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing mobile web or on-device mobile applications

  • Experience designing software for end users or enterprise customers

  • Knowledge of best practices for information architecture and interaction design, user-centered design process

  • Knowledge of user experience principles and techniques

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $121,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $225,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
