The Boeing Company Center Leader, Boeing Korea Engineering Technology Center in Seoul, South Korea

The role of Center Leader, Korea Engineering Technology Center(BKETC) is to provide overall leadership of BKETC teams, including setting center strategy; business planning; and, performance on a technology portfolio supporting enterprise objectives. A key element of this role is ensuring technical excellence, alignment and continued support to the Boeing Enterprise Technology Strategy and the Boeing Korea business strategy. Successful and positive collaborative partnerships inside and outside the Boeing company is a key success criterion.
Day-to-Day, the BKETC Center Leader will also manage employees and mid/senior leadership performing activities within multiple Engineering disciplines. She/he develops and executes integrated organizational plans, policies and procedures and guides the BEKTC in the development of business and technical strategies, goals, and objectives. The Center Leader will also acquire resources for organizational activities, provide technical management of suppliers and lead continuous process improvements. The Center Leader develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, technology suppliers and direct reports. In terms of Korean industry partners, the Center Leader will develop appropriate contacts with large companies, SME’s, and start-ups. She/he also provides oversight and approval of technical approaches, products and processes, manages, develops and motivates employees and mid-level managers, including supporting their development and career.
The Center Leader plays a key role in supporting the Boeing Korea Leadership in the development and implementation of the vision and strategy for Boeing research and technology activities in Korea, coordination of functional support and the management of technology transition activities, safety, stakeholder relations, and assignment of personnel and resources, including winning external research funds and business. Together with the President of Boeing Korea, the Center Leader also supports establishment of strategic relationships and engagements with the highest levels of Korean government authorities and officials, Universities, corporate Leaders and research institutes.

Supporting and directing operations at the BKETC office to achieve key corporate research and technology goals in Korea requires recognizing the intrinsic worth of all team mates, regardless of race, creed, sexual orientation, status, age and background.
Longer term, the objectives of the BKETC Center Leader will include, but not be limited to:
Focus on commercialization streams of Korea based R&D.
Interface with Boeing HorizonX to foster business development in Korea and access to novel innovation
Secure additional external funding to support programs of work in concert with the President of Boeing Korea
Manages the BKETC, including performance management, research and technical management of staff, development and evaluation of advanced technology in a complex, multidisciplinary environment with significant internal and external interfaces.
Identifies the requirements for technology projects in Korea. Develops, monitors, evaluates and leads the execution of integrated organizational, business, research and technology strategies; execution plan; and goals/objectives to ensure alignment with Company vision/strategy; and, positions BKETC and its stakeholders to meet major challenges.
Champions and promotes technical excellence in BKETC team mates
Develops relevant metrics (technical and programmatic) and measures progress against plans.
Forecasts, obtains and manages resources including personnel, facilities, services, equipment and tools to meet project and organizational requirements.
Determines financial objectives for the organization, monitors financial metrics to support budgetary planning, determines appropriate corrective action and acquires external funding.
Establishes partnerships and relationships with internal and external customers, stakeholders, peers and direct reports in addition to building strategic partnerships with external agencies and organizations to advance Boeing's position on key issues.
Works closely with key stakeholders and other senior managers to explain the purpose, direction and importance of BKETC as well as identifying opportunities for BKETC to improve upon the support that it provides to its customers.
Guides the development and implementation of Boeing policies, practices, procedures and documents in support of regulatory and Company requirements (including lean, continuous improvement and integration with other business units).
Coaches, counsels, mentors and provides developmental opportunities and job assignments to enhance performance, morale and expand capabilities of BKETC staff.
Provides professional opinions and advice that address and resolve complex professional/technical issues.
Contributes to selection and prioritization of research portfolio across the region, reviewing core project plans to ensure appropriate research approach being undertaken, and technical review of projects
Shares best practice in applied research across the region
Represents Boeing in external industry, research, and scientific forums across the region
Helps cross functional integration and support across the region interface and direct key subcontractors.

Higher tertiary qualifications (combination of education and experience) in a discipline that is relevant to BKETC research activities (e.g. Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, etc.)
Bachelor/Master/PhD or equivalent/above experience
Proven track record in effective development and implementation of vision and strategy for research and technology activities
The ability to develop relationship networks and a sphere of influence across company/enterprise functions and externally with partners
Demonstrated abilities in research management and transitioning technology from research to practice and a strong track record in delivering project milestones and deliverables
A detailed knowledge of product development, operations and processes, with particular relevance to advanced technologies in a regulated environment
Extensive experience in development and management of intellectual property and in research contract negotiations
Demonstrated interpersonal and technical management skills
Ability to effectively communicate technologies to upper management and converse effectively with technical experts
Experience in dealing with communication
A tolerance for ambiguity and an ability to arrive at innovative solutions
Globally minded, curious about technology and technology trends
MBA, Strategy or International Relations graduate degree
A high level of business and or project management experience and skills (e.g. Post-graduate business qualifications and significant relevant experience)
Prior research experience with an external research organisation (e.g. government research organizations, universities, etc.)
Research experience in technologies that are related to the research programs executed at the BKETC
Ability to build a strong network with Boeing stakeholders across business units around the globe to operate as a “trusted intermediary” on behalf of the local team.
