Job Summary
The Senior Reinsurance Accountant is responsible for providing accurate financial information to management by researching and analyzing accounting data and preparing reports. The role handles responsibilities which include preparing financial reports, analyzing financial data, developing reinsurance bordereaux, managing financial risks, maintaining internal controls, tracking reinsurance settlements, and supporting audits. The role also plays a critical role in ensuring the financial health and compliance of the company, by overseeing the financial operations related to insurance policies, claims, and reinsurance. This role supports in maintaining the financial stability of the company by managing its financial resources and making strategic decisions to optimize financial performance.

Job Responsibilities
Leads frequent communication with external customers, including state and federal regulators and auditors, internal business partners at all levels in the organization, and reinsurance brokers on topics such as responding to their specific questions on regulatory filings, the process used to calculate a journal entry, or questions on what specific reinsurance transactions are captured in a certain line or reinsurance bordereaux.
Develops and implements accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP and company standards, performs analysis of financial data to identify trends and variances, and prepares financial reports and statements for management review and decision making.
Coordinates and oversees the month-end close process, including preparation of journal entries and reconciliations of accounts, and reviews and approves the work of staff accountants to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data.
Assists in the preparation and review of regulatory filings, including premium and tax reports, and responds to inquiries from regulatory agencies and auditors.
Acts as a liaison between the accounting department and other departments within the company, providing guidance and support on accounting issues and policies, and promoting a collaborative and communicative work environment.
Participates in special projects and initiatives, including system implementations, process improvements, and other strategic initiatives, and provides leadership and guidance to project teams.
Provides training and mentorship to staff accountants and supports their professional development and growth within the organization.
Conducts research and analysis on emerging accounting issues and trends and provides recommendations to management on accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with evolving regulations and industry standards.
Works with business leaders and others within the Finance department to ensure that the accounting system accurately reflects reinsurance transactions for internal and external reporting.
Job Qualifications
3+ years of experience in Accounting or a related field.
Bachelor's degree in Accountancy, Finance or a related field and/or commensurate experience.
Reinsurance experienced preferred.
Certifications
