PVE, LLC Structural Project Designer in Sewickley, Pennsylvania

PROJECT DESIGNER Job Summary: Inspecting and analyzing the performance of a building as it relates to the structural elements, building envelope and surrounding site conditions related to the overall aspect of building construction.  Examine façade, roof, building construction and site elements related to their effect on the building's overall performance. Review the ongoing work of contractors for the completion of project activities (field and office) and prepares design/repair packages and summary documentation (reports, correspondence, verbal communication) for Project Manager review.  Utilize knowledge with design/analysis within related field (architecture/engineering).

Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the supervision of development of design concepts and reports for building & concrete projects.
  • Prepares comprehensive engineering reports, calculations, specifications and drawings for structural (building) design, repair and rehabilitation projects.
  • Structural consulting and design of platforms, enclosures, scaffolds, jacking, various temporary works and other related structures for use on bridge repair projects.
  • Leads construction administration and oversight on designated projects.
  • Participates in a key technical role in local projects.
  • Reviews / checks design calculations and reports;
  • Reviews project drawings for compliance with applicable codes and department standards.
  • Assures the timely delivery of quality work products and services.
  • Provides guidance and mentoring to junior staff.

  • Experience and comfort level of working from heights

Education: Bachelor's Degree in related field or applicable work experience Experience: 0 -- 3 years of design in support of various building projects and initiatives. Understanding of processes, compliance, and other design consulting and construction professionals.

Required Competencies: Adhere to all Structures Group Special Competencies and Certifications listed within the Appendix A. Working knowledge of structural framing, building envelope, codes, zoning as they apply to egress, fireproofing, energy, waterproofing, occupancy, and FAR. 

Work Environment/Conditions: The position is based in Pittsburgh, PA and will involve moderate travel. Job requires the ability to navigate urban, rural, and industrial site. Must have a valid driver's and safe driving record. 

  • Must be physically fit enough to walk fire escapes and stairwells. Must also be able to sit for long periods of time in front of a computer terminal, operating a computer keyboard and general office equipment. 
  • Office is a temperature controlled, smoke free environment.
  • Field Inspection performed in outdoor temperature extremes
