BASF is currently building a new Verbund site in Zhanjiang, Guangdong province. Announced in July 2018 and officially commenced in November 2019, BASF Zhanjiang Verbund Site Project would be BASF’s largest investment with up to US$10 billion upon completion and would be operated under the sole responsibility of BASF. BASF Zhanjiang Verbund site would ultimately be the third-largest BASF site worldwide, and will be built into a role model for smart manufacturing and sustainable production by utilizing the latest digital technologies and applying the highest safety standards.

Main Tasks

  • Be responsible for the implementation of EHS policy, procedures and BASF Responsible Care codes of the site to ensure compliance and safety maintenance execution.

  • Ensure training and compliances of safe job procedure, work permit system, EHS guideline, local and international rules and regulations to BASF team staff and contractors.

  • Cooperation with production, 1st line maintenance and safety departments, lead or support to identify unsafe conduct and conditions, risk assessment, accident/incident investigation, reporting, etc. always ensure the employees and contractors in the safe work environment with proper PPEs, tools and facilities with safe job method.

  • Provide expertise support in the functional design and implementation of process automation applications, such as process control strategies, Human-Machine-Interface design, and KPI development.

  • Jointly working together with project team in OTS (operator training simulator) development with internal and external corporate parties, by setting up the hardware architecture, platform development and functioning test.

  • Develop APC (advanced process control) models together with project team as per process needs.

  • Support project manager for cost forecast & check, change control etc., join the negotiation & ITB with contractors, balance during bidding as well as relevant claim management, ensure right basis for project execution.

  • Be responsible for commission and start up to develop procedure, plan, resource management, and performance test review.

  • Monitor project implementation and decision making in difficult cases/stages of the project, supervise suppliers, contractors based on project demands, promote and use continue relationships with suppliers to obtain total ownership benefits.

  • Act as consulting function in area of expertise on basic loop tunning, OTS and APC with various interfaces on behalf of BIG.

  • Develop and provide training based on concepts, usage, tunning etc. related to the area of Regulatory/Advanced Process Control applications.

  • Develop and coordinate site OTS/APC maintenance management strategy and processes as well as its contractor’s strategy.

  • Conduct the regular inspection of process control quality, assuring the designed models online time and well run benefitting in production reliability, and effectiveness in operation cost and product quality.

  • Troubleshoot process control issues. Identify the root causes and make recommendations for improvements and/or implement accordingly.

  • Collaborate with procurement and contractor management team on external services (out of BIG stuff) and contract-out management, including contractor assessment, qualification, technical clarification, bidding and verification etc.

  • Follow BASF continues improving process to optimize sustainability lifecycle management and cost management.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree of process control or computer science mandatory – Master’s degree is an advantage. And chemical engineering preferred.

  • Working Experience: At least 10 years total work experiences in operations or process control environment mandatory (e.g. in Process Control, Advanced Process Control, DMC, ASPEN, DCS). At least 6-8 years’ work experiences in chemical or petrochemical industry is an advantage.

  • Strong Technical knowledge in Advanced Process Control engineering and control systems, fundamentals of controls engineering, unit operations, such as (batch) reactors, distillation towers, heat exchangers and extraction processes. Basic knowledge of the various types of instrumentation for instance pressure, level, temperature, flow and valves.

  • Understand plant process control and Advanced Process Control techniques and how they can be applied to monitor, control and/or improve plant performance.

  • Solid written and verbal communication in Chinese and English skills.

  • Solid knowledge of networking and interaction between DCS, SIS SCADA, LARS, PIMS and IS systems skills.
