Job Description
The Lab Technician will undergo several months of comprehensive training, including assay testing, site safety training, and method training. Initial site training will last for 2-3 weeks before progressing to method training. Daily shifts begin with interaction with the previous shift to determine priorities, and leads and supervisors will schedule testing accordingly. Responsibilities include conducting HPLC testing, GC testing, wet chemistry (appearance, pH, density), and eventually ICP mass spec testing for sodium. This role supports the On-Demand Laboratory, handling 5-10 samples per day to support manufacturing with a turnaround time of 10-12 hours.
Responsibilities
Perform a wide range of biological, chemical, and physical analyses on pharmaceutical products, biologics, and drugs throughout the manufacturing process.
General laboratory housekeeping and cleaning of glassware and equipment.
Preparation of materials for sterilization using laboratory autoclaves.
Operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment and cleaning systems.
Stocking and maintaining departmental consumable inventory.
Routine verification and maintenance of temperature-controlled units.
Set-up and disinfection of media supplies and equipment needed for testing.
Sampling of critical utilities systems (e.g., water, air, alcohol).
Perform non-batch release testing such as raw materials and environmental monitoring.
Assist in filing and archiving departmental data binders, reports, and investigations.
Retrieve samples from manufacturing areas for testing.
Maintenance and disposal of laboratory waste.
Log samples into logbooks and receive them into LIMS, EBM, and/or JDE.
Store and organize samples in controlled temperature units and environmental chambers.
Enter data into LIMS and initiate/pull stability studies/samples.
Essential Skills
1+ year of experience working in a chemistry lab with chromatography experience.
Experience in a GMP environment.
Analytical chemistry, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and wet chemistry expertise.
Proficiency in HPLC, GC, and wet chemistry testing.
Compendial raw material testing and maintenance of assay equipment.
Reconciliation of test results.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Knowledge of basic chemical and biological safety procedures.
Good computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently and in a timely fashion.
Knowledge of most laboratory equipment, including autoclaves, incubators, and analytical equipment.
Ability to read and follow detailed written instructions.
Work Environment
This position requires working in rotating 2-3-2 day shifts from 6:00 AM to 6:30 PM, with work every other weekend. On Sundays, shifts are 8 hours starting between 6:00 AM and 8:00 AM. Controlled environments may require special gowning, including protective clothing over the head, face, hands, feet, and body. Additional hearing protection may be required in loud areas. The role involves a combination of sedentary work, standing, and walking around to observe facility conditions.
