We are currently seeking an Senior System Specialist Engineer with extensive System Engineering Skills to join our team within Collins Aerospace Electronic Controls and Motor Systems, Solihull.

As future technologies evolve towards the More Electric Aircraft, Collins Aerospace has a significant need for high performance electric motors and drives across its broad product portfolio. Electronic Controls & Motor Systems (ECMS) is creating a world-class capability in the design and manufacture of high performance electric motors and motor drive systems, working closely with other Collins Aerospace divisions, to establish superior, differentiated technologies for future Electric Propulsion Units (EPU) for Hybrid Electric Engines.

Purpose of the Role:

This is a senior role within a team of highly motivated, skilled and experienced individuals working in a flexible engineering environment, whose primary activities relate to Electric Propulsion Units (motor drive systems for Hybrid Electric Engines ).

We are looking for a Systems Engineer ideally with exposure to FAA and / or EASA certification procedures and airworthiness regulation for Hybrid Electric Propulsion Systems.

The successful candidate will be responsible for an extensive range of Systems Engineering tasks, from requirement definition to system verification. A strong bias towards electric propulsion certification is highly desirable.

Principle Accountabilities:

  • Liaison with customers and internal stakeholders for system requirements definition.

  • Requirements analysis and decomposition of requirements up to HW/SW item allocation.

  • Competently applying and championing standards, such as ARP4754A, ARP4761.

  • Support the definition of MoC for Electric Propulsion Units (Motor and Motor Controller) to meet the safety and certification requirements.

  • Definition and documentation of system architecture.

  • Requirements management and configuration/change control.

  • Definition and/or governance of system development processes, including MBSE methods and tools.

  • Write, review and maintain system development plans and reports.

  • Support design reviews, development milestones, system verification and aircraft certification.

Essential Requirements:

  • Degree in Engineering. Power Electronics background is a differential

  • Development and certification experience of safety-critical systems in an aerospace company, preferably in electronics or propulsion

  • Experience with requirements definition and management

  • Experience working under configuration control

  • Strong communication

  • Good analytical skills and problem solving ability

  • Learning ability and desire to be at the forefront of engineering innovation

Desirable skills:

  • Knowledge of architecture frameworks

  • Experience using MBSE methods

  • Experience with reuse of requirements and/or other system engineering artifacts

  • Competent in using the following tools:

  • Requirement Management tool(s) – preferably DOORS

  • Cameo System Modeller or other SysML based tool

  • Behaviour modelling tools, ideally Matlab Simulink

  • Basic script development in DXL, Matlab and Python

From time to time the successful candidate may be required by the Company to perform other tasks and/or learn new skills which are not included in the above description, but are within the capabilities of the individual and, where necessary, training will be given.
