PAY RATE

$23.40 per hour

DESCRIPTION

Salary - $23.40 per hour

POSITION SUMMARY:Expected to perform a variety of job duties, using skilled carpentry, electrical, HVAC repairs, welding, and plumbing. Jobs performed will involve new construction and maintenance repairs for the South Bend Venues Parks and Arts Department.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:May act as a lead worker for other park personnel assigned to a job.

SCHEDULE and RATE:M-F, Spring/Summer 6AM-2:30PM, Fall/Winter 7AM-3:30PM

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:This list represents the types of duties required by the position. Other duties may be assigned as reasonably expected.

  • Makes and assists in the construction of buildings, rooms, and similar carpentry, plumbing, electrical, welding, and HVAC.
  • Does finish carpentry such as cabinet making, trim molding and furniture.
  • Does remodeling include drywall, wallpaper, and panel work.
  • Helps in forming, placing, and finishing of concrete.
  • Forms, places, and finishes concrete, repairs concrete as needed.
  • Installs new playground equipment.
  • Maintains existing playground equipment.
  • Maintains tables, benches, and other furniture.
  • Build new tables, benches, and horses as needed.
  • Assists in both new fence construction and repair.
  • Estimates and requisitions materials needed for jobs.
  • Maintains current skills and knowledge in the proper use of all tools and equipment.
  • Operates power tools including saws, drills, sanders, shapers, planers, jointers, grinders, jack hammers, trucks, portable radios, and other tools as needed.
  • Prepares facilities for park and recreation program use, including bandstand setup for special events.
  • Opens and closes, locks, and unlocks facilities as needed.
  • Repairs broken windows and lock sets as needed.
  • Maintains current knowledge of new techniques and materials pertaining to carpentry, electrical and welding work.
  • Keeps records of work completed.
  • Employee Expected to display a positive attitude and be customer service oriented.

NON-ESSENTIAL/MARGINAL FUNCTIONS: Assumes additional responsibilities as requested.

EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent education and two years trade school experience in a related field.
  • Job related test is required.
  • Skill level for this position requires quality workmanship. This means that the job is completed right the first time, every time with minimal mistakes requiring additional work to redo or complete the job. The department expects the quality and quantity of work to be comparable to what is expected in the private sector. ?

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Working knowledge of equipment, materials, and supplies used in all work and to do minor repairs.?
  • Knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions.
  • Skilled in the operation of listed tools and equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule. Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and to perform strenuously physical labor under adverse field conditions.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.
  • Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public.
  • Must be able to read and work from blueprints.
  • Ability to layout jobs using a transit.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSE, REGISTRATION:

Valid Drivers License required.
