JOB SUMMARY: The 3rd Helper works as part of a 4 - person Beater
Crew. The primary role of this position is ensuring the necessary raw
materials are set up for demand of the Paper Machine. TYPICAL JOB
DUTIES: - Make pulp and Friction rounds for both #1 and #2 paper
machines as instructed by the Beater Furnish Order. - Operate a Fork
Lift Truck to move materials. - Assist 2nd helper in furnishing both
virgin and broke rounds on all grade lines following a furnishing
checklist. - Re-stock the beater room by retrieving materials using the
elevator. Monitor and refill Turkey oil, 231 D caustic, size, and 61067
retention aid as needed. - Housekeeping - Empty trash for multiple
areas, sweep floors, assist in clean up after each round, and run the
floor scrubber. GENERAL JOB REQUIREMENTS/RESPONSIBILITIES: - Each
week, all hourly associates must complete their time sheet in an online
payroll system and on the last shift / day worked, review the time sheet
for accuracy, approve and submit their time entered for the week -
Environmental responsibilities include completing and applying concepts
of Environmental training, personally practicing recycling and reuse
principles to reduce waste generation, and taking action immediately to
report and respond to chemical spills and other conditions posing risk
to the environment. - Participate as a peer trainer to train new 3rd
Helpers - Meet safety requirements of the position, including wearing of
appropriate PPE , completing all required safety training, completing 15
safety activities per month, reporting all injuries or near misses
within 24 hours of occurrence and intervening to correct any observed
unsafe behaviors by co-workers or mill visitors. EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION
AND/OR CERTIFICATION / LICENSURE REQUIRED: - Certification/Licensure:
Successfully pass certification test for 3rd Helper after 4 weeks of on
the job training. - Forklift operator certification and recertification
every 3 years. JOB KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS REQUIRED: - Basic math
skills - addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. -
Attention to detail. - Ability to enter data efficiently and accurately
into a computer system. - Strong teamwork skills including the ability
to adapt to changing circumstances. - Must be able to take direction
from senior crew members and management. WORKING CONDITIONS: -
Exposure to dusty conditions, carcinogenic dust if materials are not
handled properly, carbon dust, lethal gas if instructions are not
properly followed, materials that may cause skin irritation, humid and,
at times, extreme temperatures in the summer months, loud noises that
may exceed 85 decibels, hot pipes, chemical/material odors, and
splashing hot/warm stock. - Working around moving fork lift trucks. -
Risk of minor injuries from use of utility knife, pushing and lifting
materials, exposure to extreme high and/or low ph chemicals. - Position
requires working a rotating shift schedule, working 8 to 12 hours per
shift, 5 to 7 days per week. Exposure to heat (mainly in summer months)
and noise, some exposure to resin fumes and filler dust. Injuries may be
caused by nip points, hot machinery, high pressure steam lines, and wet
floors. Hazards are also presented by the close proximity between both
paper machines.
