Summary About the position: This position is located at the Eifel Mountain Golf Course, SpanGdahlem AB, Germany. This is a Regular Full Time (35-40 hours per week). Work schedule is from Sunday through Saturday with occasional nights, weekends and Holidays. Military Spouse Preference is lost if selected for this position. Responsibilities The primary function of the position involves work as a business and operational manager of a 9-hole golf course. Plans all maintenance and project work, applying agronomic and administrative expertise to achieve maintenance standards and long-range goals. Diagnoses deficiencies relative to soil disease, desiccation, winter kill, erosion and impact or error in maintaining a complex mix of soil and plant needs for greens, fairways, roughs, trees, shrubs, foliage, ground covers and ornamentals. Determines proper application of grass seed, fertilizer, herbicide, pesticide, algaecide, soil and sand mixture sufficient to maintain course within regulatory and industry standards. Acquires equipment and purchases necessary supplies to maintain golf course properties. Approves all expenditures and exercises cost control measures designed to ensure operating and capital expenses in line with approved budgets. Provides expert advice on renovations, improvements, minor and major construction for rebuilding or new construction of greens, bunkers and tees, additional subterranean irrigation lines, sprinkler heads and additional nursery yardage. Responsible for work force management, recruitment, and staff training. Plans and organizes in-service training programs to include safety and the proper methods and uses of motorized turf equipment and application of plant control products. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Qualifying Experience: Must have experience in golf course maintenance, which provides knowledge of turf propagation, cultivation, course equipment and mechanics, irrigation and drainage systems and controls, horticulture, and insect/pest control and various turf diseases and remedies. Must have knowledge of personnel management principles and policies sufficient to supervise and direct a staff of ground maintenance employees. Must have knowledge of grass seeds and sprigs, plant nutritional products, plant control products, and soil and sand mixtures. Must have knowledge of golf course construction and golfing techniques. Must have experience and the ability to operate all equipment (mowers, tractors, vertidrain, etc.). Possession of a Class A rating from the Golf Course Superintendent's Associate of America is highly desirable. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. A current state and/or Federal certification or licensing as a pesticide applicator is highly desirable. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution in order to qualify. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. All Federal NAF employees are required by PL 104-134 to have salary payments made by electronic funds transfer/direct deposit. Probationary period may be required.
