Department - DPW- Department of Public Works Position Purpose/Summary
Responsible for maintaining and repairing parks maintenance equipment.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Foreman. No supervision
is exercised over other employees. Essential Functions Maintains, tests,
and overhauls gasoline and diesel-powered motors. Faces, grinds, and
seats valves. Sets tappets and rods. Cleans, installs rings and inserts.
Replaces pistons and bearings. Repairs, adjusts, replaces brakes,
transmission, rear ends, differentials, clutches, axels, cooling
systems, shock absorbers, steering boxes, posts, tie rod ends, gears,
shafts, cams, drag links, king pins, bushings and bearings. Orders
needed parts and picks them up. Performs related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Considerable knowledge of the standard
practices, materials, tools, equipment, and techniques of the trade.
Considerable knowledge of the operating principles of both diesel and
gas-powered internal combustion engines. Considerable knowledge of the
occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade. Ability to
locate, diagnose, and correct defects and malfunctions of a variety of
engines and related equipment. Ability to understand and follow written
and oral instructions. Skill in the use and care of tools, equipment and
materials of the trade. Education and Experience High school diploma or
equivalent. Two years of related experience.
