This position serves our partners at the Department of Corrections (DOC). The MNIT DOC team runs many unique applications that manage the information and security of the department, supporting 4,500 employees across 10 prisons and 50 field offices located throughout the state.

As a Data Architect, you will be responsible for for strategic planning and advanced IT data design, data architecture, and technology for MNIT DOC information systems, sets standards and guidelines for design activities, and guides strategic and long-range planning for information systems including software applications and complex legacy systems migration and transformation as required by Federal and State regulations and legislature. The incumbent will be critical for cross-agency consensus-building, functional design and service integration as it pertains to data and information. The position guides strategic and long-range planning to create data architectural plans for the information systems for the DOC. The incumbent is responsible for developing methods and processes for measuring the effectiveness of enterprise data and information architecture components.

This position is temporary and includes full state fringe benefits; it is anticipated to last up to three (3) years.

This position is currently eligible for full-time telework:

  • Telework (https://mn.gov/mmb-stat/policies/1422-telework.pdf) for Minnesota IT Services allows an employee to perform work from a telework location and an employee may be required to be in the office based on business needs and other dependencies in St. Paul, Minnesota.

  • Only candidates located in Minnesota and bordering states (Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, or Wisconsin) are telework eligible.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must clearly demonstrate all of the following qualifications in their resume.

Position requires a minimum of six (6) years of increasing responsibilities and experience with data architecture, technical architecture and the relationship of these elements to organizational needs.

Experience which demonstrates and includes the following:

  • Strong understanding and implementation experience with data architecture principles, including modeling, data integration, data warehousing, and data governance.

  • Proficiency in designing and implementing scalable data solutions in Azure.

  • Experience with the Azure stack (Azure Data Factory, ADLS, Azure Databricks, Azure ML, Azure Synapse, and Azure SQL) to help build a modern platform for data that will be sourced from a variety of analytic and operational applications.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are necessary to analyze complex data requirements, identify data-related issues, and provide optimal solutions.

  • Ability to deliver effective verbal or written messages that facilitate a mutual understanding on both parties.

  • Customer service skills that include active listening, empathy, and problem-solving.

A Master’s degree in Information Technology or a related field substitutes for three years of experience, OR a related Bachelor’s degree substitutes for two years, OR a related Associate’s substitutes for one year.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in collaborative coding practices, such as pair programming, and ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment.

  • The following certifications: Microsoft Certified Azure Data Engineer and Microsoft Certified Azure Solutions Architect

  • Proficiency in programming languages like SQL, Python, and Spark
