YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg Education Specialist, School Age Programs in St Petersburg, Florida

Must have the following in order to apply:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Certified teacher currently employed by Pinellas County Schools; equivalent experience and education may substitute certification
  • Minimum of Six (6) months of experience in related field
  • Must have CPR, First Aid, AED certifications within 30 days of hire date
  • Must complete New Employer training prior to hire date
  • Able to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities
  • Able to work a flexible schedule and extended hours, as needed
  • Prior to experience working with diverse populations

**Required Screenings: Drug Testing/Screening (Pre-Employment/Random) and Background Checks (Local/State/Federal). Drug Free Workplace.

**Job Description: Education Specialist Provides support for the Middle School Academy. Coordinates student academics and tutoring schedules in conjunction with Site Director. Acts as liaison between classroom teachers and YMCA. Provides a quality experience to children and parents to support the objectives of the program.

Duties and Responsibilities:**

  • Coordinates and schedules student pre- and post-assessment testing
  • Coordinates student tutoring schedules in conjunction with Site Director; acts as liaison between classroom teachers and Middle School Academy
  • Monitors student grades
  • Assists Site Director in planning academic activities/functions
  • Aids Site Director in collecting program/student data and documentation
  • Attends all meetings/trainings relative to Middle School Academies, models, and supports Site Director
  • Provides Site Director with grade level curriculum guides; assists with alignment of enrichment activities' calendar communicates with Site Director
  • Communicates and updates Site Director Displays students' work/projects
  • Promotes Middle School Academy to parents, students, staff, and school community
  • Follows all programming and scheduling requirements
  • Adheres to policies related to boundaries with youth
  • Attends required abuse risk management training
  • Adheres to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising youth
  • Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations
  • Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements
