Full-time Faculty
Sugar Grove Campus
The Liberal Arts and Sciences division at Waubonsee is currently seeking
a full-time, tenure-track Instructor of Sociology with a commitment to
teaching excellence, diversity, equity and holistic student success.
The Instructor of Sociology will deliver curriculum and instruction for
a range of topics for courses within the Sociology discipline. The
full-time faculty member of Sociology will be responsible for the
curriculum, instruction and student learning assessment for courses
within this discipline.
The position is based at the Sugar Grove Campus and teaching assignments
may include days, and/or evenings. Courses may be offered in various
delivery modes, i.e. face-to-face, flex, online, synch-online, and
hybrid. There is also a need for flexibility to teach courses at our
Aurora Downtown campus. The successful candidate will demonstrate the
ability to effectively use instructional and classroom technology to
enhance teaching and learning.
Duties and expectations of this position include, but are not limited
to:
Designing syllabi, lessons, activities, assignments and assessments that
address the needs of a diverse student population and ensure that
students successfully meet program and course objectives and outcomes.
Incorporating learning-centered principles and concepts and motivating
students to participate actively in all aspects of the educational
experience.
Employing instructional and classroom technology appropriately and
effectively to deliver and enhance teaching and learning in courses
taught in various modalities.
Assisting the Sociology department in the areas of curriculum
development, student success initiatives, student advising, adjunct
faculty mentorship, assessment of student learning, support for student
clubs and organizations.
Collaborating with team members and community partners (universities or
community organizations) to design and implement the most effective
Sociology program that maintains quality standards and is responsive to
evolving technologies.
Promoting, participating in, and supporting student awareness,
recruitment, and retention efforts.
Serving on various campus committees as a representative of the Liberal
Arts and Sciences division.
Working collaboratively with professional colleagues to serve the needs
of students and the community.
Modeling professionalism with excellent communication, presentation, and
interpersonal skills.
Minimum Qualifications
Master\'s degree in Sociology or related field.
Two years of post-secondary teaching experience in Sociology or a
related field.
Experience incorporating technology and multimedia applications into
teaching and learning processes; interest in all forms of alternative
learning is highly desirable.
Interdisciplinary focus integrating innovative learning strategies and
the demonstrated ability to enhance the success of diverse student
populations is essential.
Experience teaching traditionally underserved populations.
Experience teaching online courses and willingness to learn learning
management systems technology.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master\'s degree in Sociology.
Teaching experience at a Community College level highly preferred.
