Job Description:

What's the role-

As a Systems Integration Lead your responsibilities will include management of the Integration Team, technical leadership, portfolio development, and hands-on project work.

  • As a functional manager, you will manage a team of up to 10 engineers supporting a range of programs and projects. Management responsibilities will include maintaining a strong team dynamic, performance reviews, project staffing, recruiting, staff development, and capability maintenance (software tools, etc.), as well as review of technical work performed by their team and others as it relates to systems.

  • Dedicate 75% of your time to contribute to and lead engineering tasks on one or multiple projects. You are expected to be a role model in product ownership and as an individual contributor. You are expected to maintain project high quality and use a learner mindset to replicate best practices.

  • SME in systems engineering and system thinking with the ability to provide guidance and advice to the team on the fundamentals and practice of systems engineering, with an emphasis on using Systems Engineering to build physical systems.

  • Work with stakeholders (internal and external to Shell), vendors in the supply chain, subcontractors, engineering teams, and end-users to identify problems and propose valid technical solutions. This will include working closely with the portfolio development managers, program managers and product owners to produce technical proposals with associated cost and schedule projections.

  • Contribute to Shell TechWorks’ engineering organizational strategy and planning, setting a vision for success that is compelling to drive the Integration team to high efficiencies.

  • Maintain close ties to the innovation ecosystem external to Shell to ensure incorporation of best practices from other industries and maintenance of state-of-the-art techniques and capabilities on the team.

  • Support the Head of Systems in fostering and driving the adoption of Systems Thinking and Systems capabilities in PTX and in TechWorks projects through strategic collaboration with other Systems Engineering teams in Shell.

  • Responsible for ensuring a healthy, safe, secure and environmentally conscious work environment is maintained at all times and by all staff, in compliance with corporate policies and federal and state regulations.

Skills & Requirements

What we need from you -

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

  • Degree in a relevant engineering discipline, Master's degree is preferred

  • Technical leadership and management:

  • Ability to lead cross-functional technical teams with varying backgrounds and skill sets

  • Ability to effectively shape group dynamics and produce desired work product

  • Experience managing multiple direct reports

  • Experience setting up process workflows and best practices

  • Experience in Systems Engineering and in Agile ways of working

  • At least 10 years’ experience developing solutions for complex systems with 5 years in a senior technical leadership role:

  • Demonstrated ability to produce innovative solutions to changing problems

  • Ability to identify problems, test assumptions and implement solutions

  • Utilize Agile management methodologies to balance technical execution with schedule and budgetary constraints

  • Ability to drive projects to completion despite uncertainty and adversity

  • Ability and drive to deliver on time, while working in a semi-autonomous environment

  • Experience fulfilling a key technical leadership role on large scale technical projects with a proven record in bringing those projects to completion

  • Ability to create and give well-received, persuasive presentations and oral arguments in all settings

  • Demonstrated deep expertise in the fundamentals of system engineering and practical application of systems engineering to create value for a project, product, or business

  • Demonstrated capability in the application of systems engineering methods including:

  • Functional requirements creation and management

  • Project and technology-based risk analysis & mitigation

  • Management of interfaces and controls in both a product development-based environment as well as a stakeholder environment,

  • Creation and management of verification & validation plans and tests

  • Experience delivering feedback and providing mentorship on oral communication to engineers and portfolio development managers

  • Ability to clearly sets stakeholder and team expectations

  • Experience working across multiple business units, with a demonstrated ability to rapidly and effectively transition to working with new technologies and in different working environments

  • Willingness to deploy to the field for up to two weeks at a time on as-needed basis

  • Willingness to travel up to 25% domestically and international.
