Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Principal Power Electronic Electrical Engineer for the development and ongoing support of new and existing electrical designs used in surface ship and submarine propulsion and power generation systems for the US Navy based out of Sunnyvale, CA . The prospective candidate will work with a group of incredible people with backgrounds in Mechanical, Electrical, and Systems Engineers with focus on Control Systems and Electromagnetic Design. The prospective candidate researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, and systems.

The Power Electronics group is seeking a Principal Power Electronic Electrical Engineer with knowledge of and experience with applications, modeling, and analysis of control systems. The candidate should also be familiar with hardware and software implementations of control systems and their associated challenges in relation to large rotating electrical machines. In that vein experience in facets of rotor/structural dynamics, analysis thereof, and correlation to control theory is highly desired.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 5 years related experience; or Master's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) discipline 3 years related experience.

  • Demonstrated abilities and experience in Mechatronics, Dynamics, and/or Control Systems.

  • Control System Modeling and Simulation ability and experience.

  • Circuit Design and Analysis ability and experience.

  • Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain a DOD secret security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preferred Degree in Electrical Engineering

  • Structural and Rotating element analysis ability and experience

  • 2+ years of work experiences with DOD related products

  • PCB/CCB design ability and experience

  • Experience with Electromagnetic Interference testing and design for mitigation

  • MATLAB/Simulink proficiency

  • C/C++/C# proficiency

  • Understanding of FPGA concepts and programming

  • Experience working with Large Scale Rotating Electric Machinery

  • Current DOD secret security clearance

Salary Range: $107,300 - $160,900

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
