Job Overview

TE Connectivity’s Engineering Managers provide leadership for cross functional engineering teams. They work with senior management to define technical road maps aligned with market directions and communicate across other Business Units to share applicable technology. Our Engineering Managers leverage TE global technology to increase competitive position and increased value to our customers. They identify relevant technology trends and opportunities, develop relationships and partnerships with key customers, industry leaders and core suppliers, define and manage IP strategy, assess talent and implement development plans to assure succession planning and organization capability.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Reporting to the VP & GM of the Performance Materials eBU, the Engineering Director will be responsible for defining and executing a technical vision/strategy for the entire engineering organization. This position is focused on heat shrink tubing, EMI products, and sealing markets, with approximately 32 engineers in combined teams located primarily in the UK, Czech Republic and China. The role will be responsible to impact the business through technology and product decisions; drive innovation and execution to increase competitiveness; and build a team and culture that responds to environmental changes and continuous learning and experimentation.

  • Demonstrable knowledge and familiarity of TE’s products, capabilities, and manufacturing

  • Customer recognition as a credible Technology Leader with recognized and agreed Technology roadmap for Performance Materials Product lines

  • Ability to leverage Engineering network and TE resources and processes to drive improved NPI and sustaining engineering efficiencies and productivity

  • Improvement in Time to Market and on-time performance for project committed gate dates

  • Manage and support the assessment of organizational needs and the design, implementation, and evaluation of the structure needed to succeed.

Profile

This results-focused individual would have existing connections within the customer and supplier communities and be able to work across disciplines and other functions to leverage existing technology and recognize and exploit performance gaps to create new business opportunities. Key cross-functional interfaces include Product Management, Operations, and Sales.

Extended experience in program leadership/team development, skilled in building a talent pipeline. Additional roles include interface to customer, development of technology roadmaps, mentoring, and deployment / improvement of quality in design processes.

Knowledge, Skills & Innovation:

  • Engineering degree along with industry high level knowledge of multiple domains critical to the success of the Performance Materials team.

  • 10+ years of experience in leading teams to deliver products on time and within budget, across interfaces from customer requirements capture through product concept and prototyping and scaleup in the factory

  • Significant experience scaling performance materials in manufacturing, including qualification testing, high speed testing, product documentation, across a global manufacturing footprint

  • Experience combining process capabilities with digital design capabilities to deliver high quality solutions

  • High level understanding of competitive products and IP positions

  • Exceeds peers in Intellectual Property knowledge and/or IP generation to create value through competitive advantage

  • Demonstrates sound judgement in working through complex technical issues with ability to communicate actions and impact clearly to stakeholders including management, customers and the technical community.

  • Innovates from a base of traditional approaches and external knowledge to develop solutions

  • Strong collaborator, contributing to BU product leadership as well as engineering functional leadership within TE
