Microsoft is seeking a highly qualified candidate to join the team as a Lab Network engineer. As a Lab Network engineer within the Azure Cloud Hardware Infrastructure Engineering (CHIE), you will support innovative projects and apply your expertise in a fast paced & technically driven environment with a diverse set of teams to ensure that the lab operations is optimized and tuned to perform in a complex environment while continuing to scale network requirement and management.


  • Providing specifications for the end to end network implementation & racking system testing for various project requirements including detailed network topology planning, physical to virtual migration/upgrades, hardware logic and cyber security.

  • Participate in cyber security planning and policy creation; Develop and apply strategies to prevent a breach, intrusion or other unauthorized penetration of system networks.

  • Analyze performance data to identify trends, opportunities and drive continuous improvement efforts to meet and support needs inclusive of system operational goals, capacity optimization (availability & scalability), an emerging capability needs.

  • Provide post project implementation support that includes test plan creation, physical to virtual verification, configuration testing in support of defined project requirements.

  • Provide required troubleshooting, maintenance and management of server racks, lab network connectivity/outage, and infrastructure while coordinating user requirements to align with cyber and infrastructure automation capabilities and recommended technical solutions.

  • Maintain a thorough understanding of all documented processes and procedures.


Required Qualifications:

  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science/engineering related field or equivalent experience.

  • Understanding of IP networking basics: L2, L3, L4 & L7.

  • Cisco networking experience at CCNA or CCNP level.

  • A working knowledge of virtual machine technology (VMware, Hyper-V, XEN or KVM) as well as operations tools such as SCCM.

  • Familiarity with core routing, switching functions, LAN/WAN technologies, firewalls and VPN.

  • Experience with embedded systems programming, Linux command line operations, scripting languages such as C/C++, installs, configures, and support of Operating Systems that includes Linux/UNIX and Windows.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with networking virtualized server systems in a lab and/or datacenter environment.

  • Certifications: CCNA, CCNP, CCIE and/or CCDA

  • Ability to demonstrate exceptional reasoning skills in daily troubleshooting operations.

  • Good written and verbal communication & organization skills.

  • Ability to work well independently and on a team. A collaborative spirit and a growth mindset.

  • Customer and results oriented with attention to quality and details.

  • Motivated to continuously learn and improve existing solutions.
