Corteva Agriscience Senior Research Associate Crops in Tlajomulco de Zúñiga, Mexico

Description

Lead seed production and data collection in corn and sorghum crops for the different breeding programs in North America, Europe, Asia and Latin America that are established in the Tlajomulco Research Center through the planning, execution and supervision of activities that ensure the production of seed with physical, genetic, physiological and phytosanitary quality in sufficient quantities established for each program in the most efficient way possible.

Activities

  • Execute all the pertinent actions evaluated and approved to achieve maximum compliance with the quantity and quality of seeds.

  • Plan seed production activities to ensure that the necessary resources are available on time and in accordance with the need during the production cycle, including input and personnel needs.

  • Supervise the fulfillment of the activities on a daily basis and make progress reports, efficiency and needs of the current operation.

  • Provide leadership to encourage compliance with the designated activities, an adequate record of the crop cycle and keep the information organized and available.

  • Participate in the supervision of crop development and report promptly when the quantity or quality of production is at risk, as well as implement actions to mitigate adverse effects.

  • Be effective in communication with work teams so that they can understand their responsibilities and become more efficient in day-to-day execution.

  • Create locations and experiments through the company's systems and assign them according to the need for production and through a strategy that favors the efficient use of land, resources, and agronomic and pollination activities.

  • Interact with other production service areas and other SRAs of the operational areas to create an active collaboration with the tasks according to priorities established by the team.

  • Coordinate and actively collaborate in support activities for the centralization project such as data collection, sample collection, leaf punching, agronomic management activities, experiment establishment, among others.

  • Generate innovative solutions to work situations; try new ways of dealing with problems and opportunities at work.

  • Ensure compliance and monitoring of regulatory protocols associated with each experiment.

  • Effective compliance of 100% of the Corteva Agriscience Management System (CAMS) and EHS&S protocols and training.

  • Develop and improve the procedures of the area's activities following the guidelines of the Corteva quality system.

  • Work together with the Operations Lead to generate metrics that give visibility to the efficiencies of the different operational processes.

  • Fluid communication with other production stations for the implementation of new technologies or protocol updates.

  • The job requires extended hours during the week and working weekends during temporary peak workloads.

Qualifications

  • Master of Science in agriculture or areas preferably related to seed production and 5 or more years of experience in the production of corn and sorghum seed through controlled pollination.

  • Having excellent personal interaction skills is required as you will be leading a large group of people. It will be appropriate to build strong internal and external relationships with your diverse team. For this, strong communication skills, ethics, respect and development are necessary.

  • Strong computer skills and information management and analysis skills are necessary. The SRA must efficiently manage Microsoft Office applications and other company analysis software, databases, development and maintenance, storage, and file manipulation. The ability to learn from new programs is required.

  • Evidence of strong self-motivation, including the ability to initiate projects, make decisions, solve problems effectively, and attend to multiple tasks and priorities.

  • Knowledge of development and physiology of the corn crop, pests, diseases, nutritional deficiencies and irrigation, as well as ways to mitigate them is desirable. Experimental design skills are preferred for purposes of setting up experiments if necessary.

  • Excellent skills in Spanish and English.

  • It is essential to drive a standard and automatic vehicle and have no impediment to obtain a driver's license.
