Boeing is seeking a Communications Specialist at its Boeing Japan office in Tokyo.

Position Responsibilities (include, but not limited to):

Summary of Accountabilities:

  • Optimize The Boeing Company’s reputation in Japan in support of business and policy objectives, working across all stakeholder constituencies including Boeing colleagues and leaders, customers, supplier-partners, government and industry leaders, academia, influencers, and employees in Japan and globally.

  • Enable Boeing Japan’s business objectives with communications that support: market shaping, sales campaigns, keep it sold, customer activities, business milestones, and employee engagements.

  • Work collaboratively with the Boeing Japan country president, local leadership team and US-based leaders and communicators to support Boeing Japan with timely, effective and engaging communications.

  • Understand and support key business pursuits for Boeing’s three business units operating in Japan: Boeing Commercial Airplanes, Boeing Defense, Space & Security, and Boeing Global Services. Develop, coordinate and execute integrated communications plans when appropriate to support the sale or introduction of new products or services in the region.

  • Work daily with a Tokyo-based communications manager and US/APAC-based communicators to align on the development and deployment of communications in Japan.

  • Maintain solid working relationships with key reporters who cover Boeing. Monitor media and provide a daily translated summary of key articles about Boeing, its customers or competitors in Japan.

  • Provide leadership communications and employee communications support. Provide stories for internal newsletters. Support the country president with employee meetings.

  • Support visiting leaders with Communications briefing papers, employee meetings and media engagement support.

  • When necessary, use company equipment to take photos and videos for use internally and externally.

  • When appropriate and aligned with business unit communicators, engage with our Japanese customer public affairs/communications representatives. Report back on those engagements and share any actions or requests.

  • When needed, serve as a company spokesperson and represent the company before the media, customers, government organizations, opinion leaders and supplier-partners.

  • Look for opportunities to proactively share Boeing Japan’s story through our people, products and services, using all appropriate internal and external channels.

Basic Qualifications (Skill/Experience):

  • At least 7 years’ experience in communications.

  • Must be fluent in written and oral communications in both Japanese and English.

  • Experience with writing and executing communications plans focused on employee communications, leadership communications and media relations.

  • Able to convey clearly, based on market/customer/product knowledge, what a proper course of action is and gain necessary internal alignment on the strategy.

  • Must be able to prioritize concurrent tasks, focus on the details and help ensure successful outcomes.

  • A proven team player who can work effectively across geographies, timezones, cultures and languages and is adept at navigating a complex environment.

  • Can be strategic and tactical in their communications approach.

  • High ethical standards and comfortable speaking up to share an opinion.

  • Flexible working hours in order to coordinate with the US as needed.

  • Proven experience with digital/social media communications and ability to take good photo/video and use editing software.

  • Superior communication, writing and presentation skills.

Typical Education/Experience:

University degree, with relevant work experience in journalism and/or public relations.

Other job related information:

  • Candidates must have authorization to work in Japan. This is not an expat assignment.

  • This position requires, at times, the ability to travel domestically and internationally.

Location:

The selected candidate will be required to work on-site (with some flex) at Boeing Japan’s Tokyo-office.
