Procures, installs, assembles, maintains, and repairs pipe fittings on plumbing fixtures, sinks, toilets, showers, traps, drains, heating and ventilation systems, air conditioning systems, hot water and steam systems, natural gas systems, sanitary drains, fire sprinkler systems, and domestic cold water systems.
Cuts, bends, threads, welds, solders, and fits pipes with adjoining pipe assemblies
Install sinks, showers, bathtubs, toilets, hot water heaters, drinking fountains, and related plumbing and mechanical fixtures
Repairs leaks and opens clogged drains
Helps with repairs, replaces, and maintains boilers, hot water heaters, cooling equipment/components, pumps, heat exchangers, valves, tanks, sumps, traps, and vents
Performs preventive maintenance and scheduled testing for building fire sprinkler systems
Helps with bi-annual heating and cooling system changeovers
Inspects completed work to ensure compliance with engineering specifications, local and NYS codes, and verifies system is realigned for operational readiness
Maintains an adequate inventory of parts required for timely repairs
Stores and utilizes chemicals, gases, and equipment in a safe/compliant manner, including maintaining MSDS sheets
Plans scheduled maintenance, creates materials lists, and requisitions materials and equipment
Maintains all aspects of plumbing and mechanical systems at the facilities to comply with NYS Building and Fire Codes
Maintains all plumbing tools and maintenance equipment in a good and safe working order per manufacturers recommendations
Maintain a proper inventory of plumbing tools associated with the trade
Performs all plumbing and maintenance work assigned in accordance with applicable safety precautions/procedures
Communicate with Public Safety and Staff via 2-way radio communication
Receive, complete, and submit all work order processing documentation accurately and on time
Snow removal using shovels and/or equipment as assigned: May include off hours scheduling in accordance with BSEIU Local 51 Contract
All other general maintenance duties as assigned
The estimated wage is $25.39 per hour for 40 hours per week for 52 weeks.
Job Requirements:
A trade school or vocational high school diploma is required or experience through a recognized apprenticeship program or a combination of both
Five years experience as a plumber / maintenance
Must be familiar with various plumbing and mechanical systems, including heating and ventilation systems, air conditioning systems, hot water and steam systems, natural gas systems, sanitary systems, fire sprinkler systems, and domestic cold water systems.
Must have knowledge of pipe fittings, valves, and specialties to include material and types
Must be able to cut, bend, thread, weld, solder, and fit pipes with adjoining pipe assemblies
Must have highly developed mechanical ability and aptitude
Must have a basic understanding of electricity/electronics and be able to properly use a multi-meter
Must be familiar with terminology of the trade
Must have complete knowledge of materials related to plumbing and mechanical systems
Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions
Must have a basic knowledge of local and NYS Plumbing, Building, Fuel Gas, Mechanical and Fire Codes
Must be able to lift and carry objects up to 51 lbs without assistance
Must be able to work from heights, including mechanical lifting devices
Must be able to read instructions and safety rules, write sentences, communicate verbally and follow instructions
Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide
Must be able to walk, stoop, bend, crouch, sit, kneel, climb and crawl
Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
Must be available for emergency call-ins
Valid NYS driver's license is required
