Job Title: Design Engineering Intern
Department: Simulation, Development, and Validation
Reports to: Manager, Lab Mechanical Engineering Technician
FLSA Status: Exempt Non-Exempt
Summary: This position will be responsible for a variety of duties in the Navico Group Tulsa IPD Test Lab under the guidance and supervision of the Lead Mechanical Engineering Technician. They will be tasked with general maintenance of lab equipment, assisting the Engineering Team with prototype development and new product testing, and providing technical assistance with test equipment operation. They will also be responsible for the care and safe operation of the Navico Group Tulsa boat fleet.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
Execute product validation testing with detailed test reporting
Communicate test data and issues with engineering team by utilizing the test request system
Build prototypes according to engineering data, utilizing electrical and mechanical principles
Design and fabricate test fixtures
Provide technical assistance and resolution when mechanical, electrical, and acoustical test problems arise
Perform basic modifications to electronic circuits
Assist with on-water product validation testing
Troubleshoot equipment failures and implement proper repair solutions
Operation and maintenance of the Navico Group Tulsa boat and vehicle fleet
General shop and lab upkeep
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:
Complete special projects or other duties as assigned
Plan, coordinate, and prioritize many projects simultaneously
Contribute to decision-making that affects corporate strategy
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
Associates or Technical degree a plus, but not required
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work with a global team
Excellent organizational skills and interpersonal skills
Ability to learn new software packages as necessary
Must be able to quickly adapt to changing directives in a competitive environment
Ability to react very quickly to new duties and situations encountered on the job
Basic machine shop experience (vertical mill, lathe, general shop tools)
Experience working in lab environment (environmental chamber, electrical, mechanical tests) is a plus
Experience in boating and marine electronics is a plus
