We are seeking a Back-End Staff Software Engineer who will develop software, help formalize development process and tooling, and contribute to the technical vision and strategy of the organization.
This role falls within the “Rights and Contracts” organization, which is focused on producing, cataloging, and distributing IP rights and contractual information for the enterprise.
Work in an agile software development team to complete backlog items, working in conjunction with other developers within NBCUniversal and engineers from external companies.
Test and create automated tests for your code, ensuring every function, service, and object is compatible with your team’s work and with the many systems within the NBCUniversal system portfolio.
Communicate with business partners around NBCUniversal to understand the needs of the user, and implement those ideas in software.
Create documentation for developers as well as business users to help them understand your products.
Maintain cloud-based platforms and environments of supported applications, troubleshooting and patching functional issues and data issues in lower or production environments when necessary.
Minimum 8 years of related experience in software development, or an equivalent combination of education/experience
Extensive experience in managing relational databases in production and at scale. Experience managing large-scale data migrations and managing schema through code.
Extensive experience in writing complicated SQL & Stored Procedure
Strong ability to tune high-performance database queries
Strong problem-solving skills
Experience in building production-grade, cloud-native software (AWS serverless preferred) with hands-on experience in cloud automation
Knowledge and experience in Python
Experienced in creating data architecture, data model diagrams, and relationship diagrams
Understand complex data structures and algorithms
Desire to lean in on a philosophy of security, resiliency, and privacy by design
Experience with automated test/build/deploy tools in a Python tech stack
Motivated and Self-Starting: able to think critically about problems, decipher user preferences versus hard requirements, and effectively use online and onsite resources to find an appropriate solution with little intervention
Passionate about writing clean, maintainable code that will be used and modified by others, and able to use and modify other developers’ work rather than recreate it
Must be willing to submit to a background investigation
Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
Must be 18 years or older
B.S. degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related field strongly preferred
Competent working in secured internal network environments and complex cloud networks setups
Demonstrated experience building software on the cloud such as AWS with managed services and serverless solutions
Experience with serverless technologies and event-driven design
Able to communicate effectively in a diverse team of varying skill sets and proficiencies. Able to lead and instruct and take direction when appropriate. Effective in-person, written and verbal communication skills
Experience working in large, multifaceted and matrixed organizations
Collaborative team player accustomed to working within and across groups
Organized and detail-oriented with ability to manage time effectively
Ability to translate business process needs into clear technical requirements
Ability to influence internal and external team members without direct reporting authority

This position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks.
