    Position Summary:

    The Grounds Generalist II assists and provides support in the operations of the Carle Facilities Services group relative to facilities maintenance. Such activities include, but are not limited to, maintenance of landscape, irrigation install, repair and setup, chemical and fertilization applications, snow removal, mechanical maintenance of equipment, pruning and all grounds related functions.

    Qualifications:

    EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Associates General Studies or Associates Horticulture / Landscaping or Two (2) years of horticultural/landscape or related experience including experience with the following: Turf - identification of disease and insect and their control measures. Ornamentals - identification of plant materials, diseases and their control measures. Irrigation - proper set-up of systems, trouble shooting and repairs. Mechanical - preventative maintenance of Grounds equipment, trouble shooting and small repairs. CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS Driver's License Illinois and Commercial Not-for-Hire Applicator License w/in 1 year of start date in position Illinois. Maintain state mandatory applicator chemical licensure by attending special sessions. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Must specialize In two of the following categories: Irrigation (ability to troubleshoot, program, locate controllers, zone valves and backflow), Turf, Annuals/Perennials/Deciduous, or Zone Control. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE Enter and retrieve work orders from work order system. Basic computer skills. Proficient knowledge in the operation and safety practices of all equipment used within the grounds department. Knowledge and ability to perform basic and preventative maintenance on grounds tools and equipment.

    Essential Functions:

  • Assists with all aspects of landscape maintenance and construction.

  • Assists with appropriate preventative/corrective action of turf and plant diseases, fungus, weed control and other naturally destructive organisms by use of special equipment and chemicals.

  • Maintains turf and landscaped areas.

  • Operates commercial / industrial grade equipment for landscaping, maintenance of grounds, parking decks and snow removal.

  • Operates, maintains and repairs to irrigation systems. Applies appropriate amounts of water to turf and landscape areas.

  • Trouble shoots Electronic valves, low voltage and panels. Replace, test and fix rotatory heads and control modules.

  • Performs preventative maintenance / repair of equipment such as; minor engine and electric system repairs, set up and calibration.

  • Pruning of deciduous, evergreen and woody plant materials with proper timing, skill and technique.

  • Assists with monitoring of Carle rental properties

  • Performs all essential job functions of Grounds Generalist I position
