Job Summary:

The laboratory Information System (LIS) Manager, under the direction of the LIS Director and the System Administrative Laboratory Director, is responsible for the facilitation of maintenance and support of the laboratory information systems and coordination of information system related efforts across the WMCHealth System. This individual will work with members of the LIS Team and the WMC Network IT Teams including enterprise applications staff to ensure the reliability of the systems are maintained and the systems are being optimized by the laboratory operations. An understanding of the workings of a laboratory in order to maximize the use of the application is required. Works with the local system laboratory and the enterprise system analysts in user groups to establish needed reports at the corporate and local system level and share “best practices” in laboratory processes. This position is responsible for training laboratory users on the information systems, working with the laboratory management team to optimize the use of the system and identifying and recommending additional means of process improvement through implementation of improved information system tools.

Responsibilities:

  • Actively working with the Enterprise LIS team to improve systems to support the success of the laboratory.

  • Evaluates local system needs and makes recommendations to revise system standards when necessary.

  • Evaluate system problems (troubleshooting) and develops resolution strategies.

  • Uses expert knowledge of LIS to determine how system can support local needs through data mining in various systems and/or working with vendors for system modifications.

  • Evaluates training needs of local end users and tailors training accordingly. Participates in training super users and end users on the laboratory information systems that include the LIS and any software systems connected to the LIS.

  • Maintain system files on customers, users, etc. to ensure optimal use of the systems. This includes but is not limited to all LIS dictionary maintenance/design/build functions, statistical and report writing, hardware/printer scanner definitions, system trouble-shooting, interface monitoring, system upgrades testing.

  • Functions as a member of the laboratory leadership team. Coordinates with laboratory leadership and local leadership in the identification, implementation and optimization of information systems in conjunction with the enterprise information services team to ensure sharing of best practices across the WMCHealth Network.

  • Monitor and troubleshoot instrument and information interfaces

  • Facilitate the testing and implementation of system upgrades and enhancements in conjunction with the Enterprise IT Team.

  • Works with the LIS team to establish and plan education, training, and documentation to ensure integration of defined standards into operational processes.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications/Requirements:

Experience:

  • A minimum of three (3) years of progressive health care project management, laboratory and communications experience, required

  • Proven experience in maintaining project schedules, documentation, communications, and meeting deadlines, required.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in laboratory sciences, Business or Management Information Systems and three years of relevant work experience or relevant work experience equivalent.

  • Work experience may be substituted for a degree.

  • Work requires demonstrated interpersonal skills to communicate tactfully, effectively and with discretion within all levels of management

  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail, Project Management tools, PCs, printer, facsimile and other office machines as needed.
