Purpose

Contributes to the overall success of SSI Branch Review Compliance Testing in Canada ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

Accountabilities

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.

• Accountable for executing Compliance Testing (SSI Branch Reviews) for Canadian Banking and Wealth Management, which includes assessing operating effectiveness of compliance controls applicable to the Branches, particularly adherence to Regulatory requirements (CIRO) as well as the Bank’s internal standards, policies and procedures.

• Works closely with the Senior Manager – SSI Testing to execute the testing program.

• Maintain relationship with the Business Line Compliance, Internal Audit and first line to ensure alignment and smooth execution of test plans, to minimize the impact on business.

• Pro-actively identifies potential violations /risk of non-compliance with regulatory requirements, internal policies and procedures, in a timely manner and makes recommendations to mitigate compliance risk, generally in the course of execution of branch reviews.

• Identify, define, and build a risk effective and cost-efficient testing program by providing feedback on enhancements to the Branch testing methodology / program, looking for opportunities to automate testing procedures, etc.

• Identify trends and/or gaps and report findings with recommendations on how to improve the effectiveness of the business line controls.

• Assist with validating actions taken by management to remediate, and to assess the sustainability of these actions to close, reported testing issues.

• Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

• Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Education/Experience

Functional Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of relevant Financial Services industry experience (particularly related to CIRO - Mutual Fund Dealer requirements in Retail branches) with Relevant industry proficiencies (Canadian Investment Funds Course (or equivalent), IFSE Branch Managers Examination (or equivalent).

  • Good understanding of risk & controls

  • Knowledge of regulatory, compliance, and industry requirements; including knowledge of related issues facing the business line

  • Demonstrated Writing skills

  • Self-Driven with effective Time Management Skills.

  • Demonstrated Relationship Management skills

  • Strategic Thinker and good negotiation skills

  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm and focused when faced with competing issues of importance
