Sony Pictures Imageworks is seeking a hardworking Payroll Administrator to join our Production Finance team!
This role requires someone who can work independently in a high volume and fast paced production environment.
*Please note that this is a one year contract for leave coverage*
Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for ensuring weekly Canadian payroll is processed and completed for the VFX Studios (900+ employees) and other SPE Canadian entities (SPR – 50 employees) in the provinces of British Columbia, Quebec, and Ontario
Review the weekly payroll register to ensure payroll changes have been applied (terms, new hires, rate changes, SIN updates, etc.)
Provide necessary information to government agencies including information regarding employee ROE’s and employment status inquiries
Notify employees of any payroll related updates, timecard coding updates, or issues (closures, voting, jury duty, statutory holidays, etc.)
Lead contact for payroll inquiries with internal US payroll team and external payroll provider
Ensure all payroll year-end procedures follow Canadian Labour standards and adherence to local provincial tax regulations
Conduct various payroll audits throughout the year to ensure 3rd Party payroll provider systems are accurately tracking employee payroll data
Provide payroll reports to department managers & heads of departments as required
Reconcile weekly payroll ledgers and troubleshoot coding errors
Become the expert with internal timecard tracking systems (UKG and Timekeeper) and external payroll provider labour tracking platform to highlight any issues in a timely matter
Responsible for the set-up of any new satellite VFX studio location(s) worldwide
Learn local legislation/employment standards to accurately set up new employees in the Sony payroll echo-system
Set-up local workers’ compensation accounts, employee fringe benefits filings, and any other administrative payroll set-up requirements
Create reporting tools for timecards to ensure accurate coding to billable projects
Point person for any payroll system/platform integration, transition, and interface builds
Expert in payroll tax set up, test payroll data, and lead payroll reporting requirements
Learn any new payroll system and become an expert user
Train new hires and new timecard approvers
This position entails ongoing daily communication with employees, production accountants, SPE finance, and internal/external payroll leads
Strong communication and interpersonal skills are crucial
Education, Experience and Skills Required:
2-4 years of relevant payroll processing experience (production payroll preferred)
Ability to communicate effectively with production employees (primarily artists) of all levels
Proactive, takes initiative, and looks for ways of improving existing processes/procedures
Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
Ability to prioritize effectively and meet all deadlines
Ability to operate effectively in a cross-functional team environment
Payroll Compliance Practitioner and a Bachelor’s degree preferred
The anticipated base salary for a Production Payroll Administrator is $26.44/hour to $31.25/hour. This role may also qualify for annual incentive and/or comprehensive benefits per company policy: including healthcare, tuition reimbursement, RRSP's, sick and vacation leave, standard increases as applicable. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location of the position.
