Summary of Duties:

 

The First-Generation Success Coordinator at Washington State University Vancouver plays a vital role in enhancing the success of first-year students, specifically from rural communities in Southwest Washington through culturally responsive approaches. By offering wrap-around support through holistic advising and meaningful, relevant co-curricular programming, the Success Coordinator fosters student retention and success.This position is limited term (2 years or funding availability) and reports to the Campus Director of Engaged Learning and Career Action. The position also supervises a team of peer mentors. This position serves as a liaison from ELCA and is responsible for maintaining highly collaborative relationships with ESD 112 and builds partnerships across campus with department faculty & advisors, Financial Aid Counselors, the Office of Student Life, and other areas to intended to provide services and supports for students.Key responsibilities include coordinating specialized summer bridge programs that help students transition to college life and accessing resources. The Success Coordinator also provides comprehensive academic and personal support to first-year students in New Coug Learning Communities, Carson College of Business, College of Engineering and Computer Science.Additionally, the Success Coordinator organizes First-Gen Friday events and other specialized co-curricular programs designed to build community, provide resources, and address the unique challenges faced by first-year and first-generation students. Through individualized support plans and culturally responsive programming, the Success Coordinator equips students with the tools and resources to navigate higher education challenges and achieve their academic goals.

 

Required Qualifications:

Positions require a Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of professional work experience in student services or related education/experience. A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver's license and meet requirements in accordance with https://policies.wsu.edu/prf/index/manuals/safety-policies-procedures-manual/sppm-7-10/#four_3and departmental driving standards.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

• Master's degree in related field.

• One or more years of experience with coordinating student services programs directly related to measurable outcomes of retention and persistence in a higher education institution.
