Our Water Resources team includes nationally recognized experts in Hydrology, Hydrogeology, Hydrotechnical Engineering, and Geochemistry along with subject matter experts in Water Resources Engineering, Water Balance Modeling, and Water Quality. We work on projects local to BC as well as across Canada and internationally. Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking an intermediate Hydrologist/Water Resources Engineer to work as an integrated member of our Water Resources Team in British Columbia. The Intermediate Hydrologist will provide field, technical and project management support for the design and implementation of hydrology, climate, water quality, water resource, and other environmental management components of Stantec’s programs. The successful candidate will join a team that works together to foster a collaborative culture with a focus on communication, mentorship, and opportunity.

Your Key Responsibilities

Prepare, participate in and/or lead field programs required for hydrologic or climatic data collection and monitoring programs

Participate in interdisciplinary teams responsible for conducting baseline studies, assessments, and ongoing monitoring programs

Support hydrometric and climatological site selection and study design activities. Train staff when appropriate

Compile, manage and assess hydrometric, hydrogeologic, climate, water quality, and water use data

Ensure equipment is maintained and calibrated to meet operational and field requirements

Support on-going data management and reportin functions

Excellent communication skills (verbal and written – including technical or scientific writing)

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Familiarity with British Columbia and Federal regulatory environments for mining and construction projects would be an asset

  • Highly proficient in the use of Aquarius hydrologic software

  • Experience and interest in field work. Field work in remote locations is required

  • Participate in business development of water resources projects, writing proposals, developing scopes and budgets and communicating with clients and contractors

  • Development of junior staff through training, mentoring and review of project work

  • Development and review of safe work practices, including project specific safety planning

  • Knowledge of various hydrologic or hydraulic and statistical software (e.g., HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, R) and GIS or other similar software and working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

  • Ability to manage time to meet project schedules and budgets

  • Superior and demonstrated verbal and written communication skills along with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks

  • Possess a valid driver’s license and willing to travel within BC and Canada to remote locations as required

Education and Experience

Undergraduate degree in sciences or engineering with some prior formal training (e.g., coursework) in hydrology and/or hydrogeology.

Currently licensed or eligible for licensing with EGBC (P.Geo. or P.Eng.).

The ideal candidate will have at least 8 years of demonstrated experience related to hydrometric and groundwater monitoring, and surface water and groundwater sampling.

Valid safety training certificates relevant to field work (first aid, auxiliary vehicles, boating, etc.) are an asset.

Typical office environment involves working with computers and remaining relatively sedentary. Field work may include exposure to the elements, including inclement weather and rough terrain, and requirements to lift items and equipment up to 50 lbs.

Stantec offers a flexible work arrangement for desk-based tasks, combining home-based and office-based time.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):

Salary Range(s):

  • Lower Mainland $79,200/BC Other Areas $74,700 - Lower Mainland $114,800/BC Other Areas $108,300 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in BC (Lower Mainland includes Vancouver & Burnaby)

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
