IHG Hygiene Officer in Kuwait

Reports To: Quality Manager

Job Summary: The Hygiene Officer is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and food safety are maintained across all areas of the hotel, including guest rooms, public spaces, food and beverage outlets, and back-of-house areas. This role plays a critical part in upholding the brand's reputation for excellence and delivering an exceptional guest experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct regular inspections and audits of all hotel areas to assess hygiene levels, identify potential risks, and ensure compliance with IHG brand standards, local regulations, and food safety guidelines (e.g., HACCP).

  2. Develop, implement, and monitor hygiene protocols, cleaning procedures, and sanitation programs tailored to the hotel's operations, ensuring adherence to best practices.

  3. Collaborate with department heads, such as Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, and Engineering, to address hygiene concerns, recommend improvements, and provide training on proper cleaning techniques and chemical handling.

  4. Maintain accurate records of inspections, audits, and corrective actions taken, ensuring proper documentation and reporting as per IHG guidelines.

  5. Oversee the proper storage, handling, and usage of cleaning supplies and chemicals, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and environmental standards.

  6. Stay up-to-date with the latest trends, regulations, and best practices in the hospitality industry related to hygiene, sanitation, and food safety.

  7. Conduct regular training sessions for hotel staff, emphasizing the importance of hygiene and promoting a culture of cleanliness across all departments.

  8. Liaise with external agencies, such as health authorities and certification bodies, to ensure the hotel meets all necessary hygiene and food safety requirements.

  9. Participate in the hotel's quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives, contributing to the overall guest satisfaction and brand reputation.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Degree or diploma in Hospitality Management, Environmental Health, or a related field

  • Certified Food Safety/Hygiene Auditor or equivalent certification (e.g., HACCP, ServSafe)

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a similar role within the hospitality industry, preferably in a luxury or upscale hotel environment

  • Excellent knowledge of hygiene standards, regulations, and best practices in the hospitality sector

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with staff, guests, and external stakeholders

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and familiar with hygiene/quality management systems

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required

  • Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and a customer-centric approach
