Vectrus Lead Water Plant Mechanic in Marshall Islands

Overview

This position is physically located in the Marshall Islands in support of LOGCAP

Under the supervision of the Water Wastewater Treatment Plant Manager, the Water Plant Mechanic Lead is responsible for the planning, operations, management, and daily supervision of water treatment equipment maintenance activities on a LOGCAP contract. Oversees employees performing preventive and corrective maintenance on water and wastewater related equipment such as (conventional and reverse osmosis equipment) exercising independent judgment in developing methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining LOGCAP Program results in concert with and at the direction of the Public Works Director. Plans, organizes, directs, and controls the potable/non-potable water and wastewater equipment maintenance activities on the program. The Water Plant Mechanic Lead has the responsibility and authority of the potable and non-potable related activities on the assigned contract

Responsibilities

This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company.

  • Ensures preventative maintenance and repairs are performed on schedule and to industry standards to water plant equipment including, but not limited to pumps, valves, chemical injection pumps, analytical equipment, compressors, and other plant equipment.

  • Calibrates and troubleshoots electronic analytical devices such as turbidimeters, differential pressure transmitters, flow meters, and chlorine meters.

  • Supervises the troubleshooting of new major equipment such as a hypochlorite generators, filters, and reverse osmosis systems.

  • Plans, organizes, directs, and controls the potable/non-potable water and also wastewater equipment maintenance activities on the program

  • Responsible for the preventive and corrective maintenance program in the water treatment plant.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications: Education/Certifications: One-year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.

  • Licenses/Certifications: Valid Apprenticeship or technical certificate Water Treatment preferred

  • Must be able to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC)

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

  • High school graduate or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering or technical field preferred.

  • Experience:

  • Seven (7) years related experience in water treatment.

  • Three (3) years supervisory experience in the management of personnel.

  • Experience with municipal Water Treatment, as well as some knowledge of Water Distribution systems is required.

  • Previous experience in a contingency environment is a plus.

  • Skills:

  • Must be able to read, write and speak fluently.

  • Able and willing to perform other duties as needed, as skills and program allow.

  • Thorough knowledge of electronic analytical devices such as turbidimeters, differential pressure transmitters, flow meters, and chlorine meters.

  • Ability to read, interpret and follow manuals, exploded view diagrams, engineering sketches, charts, and work orders

  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations required on the job

  • Ability to pass and maintain the respirator fit test with a tight-fitting respirator in order to work with chlorine gas.

  • Ability to use logic in troubleshooting problems.

  • Ability to successfully plan maintenance projects from start to completion and meet deadlines.

  • Working Conditions:

  • Must be capable of working in tropical weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

  • Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well.

  • Physical Requirements:

  • Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.

  • Must comply with all Fire and Safety Regulations and post policies.
