Summary This position is in the Senior Executive Service (SES). Veteran's preference does not apply to the SES. Responsibilities The Assistant Director is responsible for developing and evaluating programs and implementing instructions, and approval of issuance effecting major policy changes of various branches of the Reentry Services Division of the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP). ​​The incumbent is responsible for the management and integration of goals, efforts, and accomplishments of the following functional areas: Psychology Services, Chaplaincy Services, Women and Special Populations, Community Reentry Affairs, Residential Reentry Management, and Education. The incumbent is also responsible for the development and issuance of service-wide policy guidelines for implementation and operation of the assigned functions and programs throughout the BOP. The incumbent oversees psychological and drug treatment services in the BOP to include drug treatment programs, mental health and sex offender assessment treatment and behavioral management interventions. The incumbent is responsible for monitoring the mental health services and programs for inmates to include the Suicide Prevention Program, Psychology Doctoral Internship Programs, Drug and Substance Abuse Treatment, and other form of Cognitive Behavior Therapy. The incumbent directs and evaluates the development of psychological, religious, and inmate counseling programs and oversees the agency’s inmate reentry strategy. The incumbent is responsible for several of the agency’s Crisis Management programs to include Correctional Support Team. The incumbent is also a key advisor to the Director (BOP) and Deputy Director. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications MANDATORY TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS: To be qualified for this position, applicants must be able to show progressively responsible experience in a correctional environment which has demonstrated the ability to perform supervisory or administrative duties such as training subordinates in the specific duties related to their function in the institution, coordinating and directing operations and programs in a correctional setting or at the national level, evaluating performance of institution operations and the effectiveness of programs in relation to the inmate population. This experience must have been gained through the direction or assistance in the direction, of an entire correctional program or major phase of a correctional program. Education This position does not have an education requirement. Additional Information You must submit all required information by the closing date. You must provide the information annually after appointment. Veteran's Preference is not applicable to the Senior Executive Service. The Executive Core Qualifications (ECQs) of the selectee who is not a current or former career SES employee (Title 5) must be approved by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) before appointment. In addition, individuals entering the SES for the first time are subject to a one-year probationary period. Applicants who have completed the Candidate Development Program (CDP) and have had their ECQs certified by OPM must provide a copy of their certificate as part of their application. OPM is required to review the ECQs of each new career appointee to the SES prior to appointment. To be considered for this position, applicants must submit a written statement addressing the 5 ECQs listed above. Unless you are currently serving under a career SES appointment, are eligible or reinstatement into the SES or have successfully completed an SES-Career Development Program approved by OPM, you must submit a narrative statement covering each of the ECQs to receive consideration for this position.
