District Manager Seattle/ Tacoma area of Washington

Military Deli & Bakery Services is the #1 operator of deli and bakery departments located in U.S. Military commissary grocery stores with 103 locations nationwide. This position is an exciting opportunity for a District Manager to oversee 6-7 locations, mostly in the Seattle metro area . The chosen individual will work out of their home office with the company providing all office and technology equipment. The position requires an average of 20% to 30% overnight travel to visit military bases in the area primarily by car, with occasional trips by plane. This position includes a company vehicle.

The ideal candidate will live in the Seattle/Tacoma area.

Starting Salary: $75,000 to $85,000 annual with quarterly bonus program established to pay from $1500 to $2500 per quarter for good performance.

DISTRICT MANAGER (reports to Region Director – North)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The District Manager is responsible for oversight and supervisory management of multiple Deli and Bakery departments that operate inside military commissary grocery stores located on military bases.

Serves as a leader in the development and motivation of Deli/Bakery Store Management and Associates, while creating an environment that delivers food safety and encourages outstanding customer service and productivity in a busy environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES: This Management individual will be responsible to/for:

Store Operations:

  • Ensures that each day each department meets the requirements of all Government required Food Safety protocols and procedures and departments pass daily inspections by Military Food Inspectors.

  • Continuously promotes a safe working environment. Ensures that safety procedures are followed, and that Safety Meetings occur at each location each month. Personally, conducts a Safety Meeting at each location at least one time each quarter.

  • Oversees the management of all operational procedures in deli, hot foods and bakery in each store assigned. Responsible to develop and maintain a service-oriented environment that pleases military customers. Accountable to maximize daily sales and achieve sales growth.

  • Accountable for P&L in each store by effectively managing operational costs, work hours, inventory, margin, and salvage.

  • Executes company policies and programs regarding training, staffing, customer service, product presentation, worker safety, cleanliness, and sanitation. Installs new company policies and programs.

  • Consistently visits each of the stores to ensure the established standards are being met. On a proactive basis, identifies issues and corrects situations where more training or support is needed.

  • Assures morale is maintained at a high level, to promote retention and reduce turnover.

  • Conducts inventory process alongside Deli/Bakery Manager at a select base each month.

  • Serves as a Deli/Bakery Manager at a location if required.

    Customer Service:

  • Responsible for all aspects of customer service in each store, ensuring the highest level of service.

  • Encourages and empowers Deli/Bakery Managers and Associates to deliver exceptional service ensuring that military Customer Surveys are within acceptable standards.

    Human Resources:

  • Responsible for the development of Deli/Bakery Managers, Assistant Managers, Shift Leaders, and other Associates in the District.

  • Responsible for providing clear, direct, honest, and productive feedback to Management and Associates regarding individual performance. Works with Human Resources to address performance issues and create a plan of action.

  • Ensures compliance with MDBS Human Resources policies and procedures.

  • Routinely reviews payroll timekeeping practices at each location to ensure compliance with MDBS and Wage and Hour policies. Reviews reports on work hours to ensure compliance with Part Time and Full-Time status requirements.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of two years of general supervisory management experience, with a strong operational background in a retail food business. Experience in a supermarket chain and/or other multi-unit retail food business is preferred.

    Prior experience supervising a multi-unit food service business with P&L responsibility is highly preferred. A college degree or college experience is also preferred.

  • Proven leadership and team building skills; ability to motivate all levels of staff and management.

  • Ability to use technology and analyze data. Strong computer skills to efficiently use MDBS databases and software programs for analyzation and identification of problems and opportunities.

  • Strong personal organization skills and ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing.

  • Must hold or be able to maintain a ServSafe Food Safety certification.

  • Good driving record required for use of company car. Ability to gain access to military installations, which may entail routine criminal background checks by the government.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • The position is based from an in-home office that provides a professional working environment.

  • Must be available to work during normal business hours, weekends, and evenings.

  • Ability to travel on a regular basis (at times 50%) with occasional assignments for a full week.

  • Ability to read and analyze data on hard written copy or on a computer screen.

  • Ability to successfully operate in a busy environment with multiple work pressures.

  • Ability to communicate in a professional and respectful manner both verbally and in writing (including email) to individuals and groups.

  • Strong listening skills to develop mutual understanding of issues to assist in problem solving.

  • Physical ability to operate equipment standing for an entire shift and carry and lift 30-50 lbs.

  • Ability to make frequent repetitive motion (e.g., using deli meat and cheese slicers).
