What we want

The Research Assistant will assist in managing day-to-day laboratory operations, including meticulous record-keeping of inventories and budgets, organizing and maintaining laboratory equipment, overseeing laboratory safety, ordering of scientific/office supplies, and basic experimentation.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation applications.

  • Ability to identify, assess, and solve problems.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to ensure understanding.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science; more than 1 year of experience in academic laboratory setting, exceptional organizational skills.

  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.

  • Enthusiasm to learn new techniques and skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Lab Support: Coordinates the daily activities in a laboratory, including staff support and quality control. May assist in managing the science team pool by recruiting, screening, and maintaining records on undergraduate student technician tasks or schedules. Assists with longer-term lab organizational efforts. Assists in administering the lab software system. Ensures adherence to lab standards and practices to maximize safety and operational effectiveness. Conducts research sessions and coordinates with researchers. Work closely with PI, but also independently, as projects require. Evaluates and summarizes results. Assists in preparing and writing proposals to funding agencies; maintains financial accounts related to research projects. Installs, operates, maintains, and/or repairs research equipment

  • Inventory Management: Maintains lab supplies and other research equipment. Schedules lab space for research sessions. Assists with reports, invoices, and cataloging records.

  • Educational Support: Prepares and sets up research sessions including drafting protocol, coordinating with IT support. Assists undergraduate and/or graduate students and other laboratory, technical or field staff involved in research. Attends all laboratory meetings

  • Cell Culture and Tissue Culture: Performs basic molecular biology experiments as per protocol and direction of science team. Prepares cell culture media and reagents. Cultures and maintains various cell culture lines.
