The Academic Success Center provides comprehensive resources that help all Aggies achieve their academic goals and realize their academic potential. We provide workshops and classes on study skills, time management and related topics; tutoring; Supplemental Instruction; academic coaching; peer mentoring for transfer students, and support for students working on Texas State Initiative requirements. We make ongoing efforts to foster this atmosphere by means of ongoing professional development, meeting regularly with stakeholders across campus via the Academic Success Center Advisory Board, cooperating with the Veterans' Resources Center to conduct academic coaching and orientation programs specific to veterans, and completing certifications such as Aggie Allies, Green Dot, and QPR gatekeeper. We cultivate skills and attitudes that enhance academic performance and prepare students for lifelong learning. Our programs encourage excellent academic performance, especially, but not exclusively, in courses and subjects with traditionally high rates of failure. We encourage students to engage in curricular and co-curricular experiences that further their academic goals. And we connect students to resources and support across campus.

What We Want

The Scholastic Performance Specialist II (Success Coach) is responsible for providing professional and specialized skills for planning, developing, implementing, and managing student scholastic performance programs and activities utilizing maximum campus and community resources and opportunities. Provides scholastic direction, offers services to students in individual and group formats, and directs students to resources that will assist students in becoming academically successful. Monitors student progress, maintains records, analyzes data, and prepares reports.

What You Need to Know

Salary Range: $40,000.00 Annually

Other Requirements and Factors: Rare evening/weekend work will be required. General office conditions with the majority of time spent in contact with students. Attends meetings and conferences concerning students and with student groups at times beyond usual working hour

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Two years experience in advising, recruiting, teaching, coaching, Student Affairs or other related area.

Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Technical skills in word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint. Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Four years experience in advising, recruiting, teaching, coaching, Student Affairs or other related area. Applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Four years experience in advising, recruiting, teaching, coaching, Student Affairs or other related area. Advanced technical skills in word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint. Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Essential Duties/Tasks

Coaching

Maintains an individual case load of students. Meets, refers, and follows up with students regarding general scholastic questions, concerns and needs. Fosters retention of identified groups of students through coaching, mentoring, monitoring of student grades, and other support activities. Provides scholastic direction and advice to students, both individually and in groups.

Records

Administers and interprets assessment inventories, making referrals as required, and manages organizational and administrative aspects of individual student cases. Develops and supervises systems for maintaining records of student contacts. Oversees the development of academic coaching projects and their implementation to achieve specific objectives or outcomes. Maintains student information in appropriate record systems and maintains records of student contacts and achievements. Interprets data and prepares reports as requested.

Collaboration

Responds to inquiries from students and refers to appropriate University and college policies and procedures stakeholders. Interacts with college offices regarding academic progress of students related to student probationary terms and/or general academic progress.

Training

Completes professional academic coach internal training.
