What You Can Expect

Incumbents in this position are part of the Model maker Training Program. Responsibilities include training on advanced operation of manual and CNC equipment and developing machining and manufacturing processes. Will manufacture products using manual equipment as well as develop and operate CNC programs for the manufacturing of products in multiple-axis machining centers. Assist in process improvement and cost reductions through productivity improvement and machine time reductions, including tools and fixtures.

How You'll Create Impact

  • Will receive individual training and mentorship on CNC Programming and advanced manufacturing.

  • Develop machining processes and programs for the manufacturing of products in multiple-axis machining centers interfacing with tool engineers, manufacturing engineers, development engineers and quality engineers.

  • Analyze part drawings, sketches, and design data to determine dimension and configuration of cuts, selecting cutting tools, and machine speeds and feeds, according to knowledge of machine shop processes.

  • Develop CNC programs of multiple-axis machining centers using an advanced three-dimensional programming CAD system.

  • Assist in any testing required in the purchase of new CNC equipment.

  • Perform cutting tools evaluations, cost analysis and new technology implementation.

  • Develop advanced manufacturing skills on a variety of manual and CNC machine tools.

  • Utilize CAD/CAM systems (UG/NX), TeamCenter and 3D modeling.

Your Background

  • Basic understanding of lathe and mill CNC controls, including multiple-axis machining centers preferred.

  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices.

  • Basic skills in shop math.

  • Working knowledge of precision measuring equipment including, mics, calipers, comparators, indicators, CMM equipment etc...

  • Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills required.

  • Must be team and customer focused.

What Makes You Stand Out

  • High School diploma plus five or more years of Machining experience.

  • Must have capacity to enroll and complete required educational requirement through Ivy Tech
