DHS Headquarters Assistant Executive Secretary of Coordination in Washington, District Of Columbia

Summary This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Office of the Secretary/Office of the Executive Secretary (ESEC). The primary purpose of this position is a peer capacity to the Director of the Secretary's Briefing Staff, the Director of Congressional Actions and the Director of Correspondence Operations. Non-BU: This is a non-bargaining unit position. Responsibilities As a Assistant Executive Secretary of Coordination, GS-0301-15, your typical work assignments may include: The Incumbent must establish close working relationships with the NSS and other executive offices within the White House. The Incumbent should also establish contacts within DHS components and develop DHS policy position knowledge. The Incumbent will be charged with establishing and formalizing the DHS processes and guidelines for handling NSS and other White House actions. The Incumbent will also serve as a direct report to the Deputy Executive Secretary for daily preparation of the Secretary and Deputy Secretary's unclassified briefings to include leading the assignment and preparation of all briefing materials of the highest quality and timeliness. The Incumbent also provides overall management of the section. Incumbent will liaison with senior-level DHS and interagency officials on a range of sensitive homeland security and national security issues of the highest importance to the Department. As a member of the Executive Secretariat leadership, the incumbent will participate in strategic planning efforts to further enhance the Department's decision-making operations. The Incumbent is responsible for the establishment of goals and performance management of subordinate staff in the briefing book coordination and the White House and Interagency staff section of ESEC. The Incumbent works collaboratively with the Administration, Budget and Logistics Section of ESEC to identify and update appropriate goals on an annual basis and ensures the timely completion of performance evaluations. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Specialized Experience To qualify for this position at the GS-15 level, you must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in Federal Service or private/public sector equivalent experience. For this position, specialized experience is defined as: Skill of independent writing and editing, such as business communications, white papers, journalism, press releases or other significant written products. Broad, substantive knowledge of how the three branches of the U.S. Government operate and interact, and the responsibilities of each, with emphasis on the executive and legislative branches. Extensive knowledge of federal programs, organizational culture, and organizational behavior. Ability of writing style guides and mastery of grammar, syntax, sentence structure and generally accepted principals of clear, effective writing.
