The Public Policy and Advocacy office located in Washington, DC works to build strong relationships with Members of Congress, as well as with officials at the White House and federal departments and agencies. Through our advocacy efforts, we inform and educate key representatives of the government's legislative and executive branches about issues important to girls and Girl Scouting and lobby for increased program resources.

You Will

This dynamic and substantive internship will provide the ideal candidate an opportunity to promote public policies and research on critical issues facing girls, as well as to mobilize the support of Girl Scout councils and other youth serving organizations in grassroots advocacy. Our legislative agenda focuses on the following advocacy issues: civic education; access to outdoor exploration; financial literacy; girls’ participation in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM); and supporting a thriving nonprofit community.

In addition to general office support duties, specific intern responsibilities include: research on girl-focused issues, drafting policy memoranda, assisting in the implementation of congressional briefings, helping to create advocacy materials, attending congressional hearings and briefings, developing content for publication and websites, tracking relevant legislation, and participating in various national coalition meetings.

Required Technical Skills

  • Excellent research ability, writing, and verbal communication skills are a must.

  • This is a part-time internship from Sept - Jan, approximately 15 hours per week.

  • This will be a hybrid opportunity (1-2 days per week in office) where the candidate will work both in-person and virtually.

    You Need

  • Must currently be enrolled in a full-time Bachelors program and graduating between December 2024 and June 2027.

  • Strong academic record

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:This job operates in a professional office environment.

    POSITION TYPE / EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:This is a part-time position. Days and hours of work are variable M-F with a 15 hour per week schedule.

    SALARY RANGE: $18.00 - 20.00 per hour
