Description
Designed with special needs in mind, Connecticut Transportation Systems (CTS) serves all territories throughout Connecticut. CTS is headquartered in Waterbury and has an office in Trumbull. Our drivers are always friendly and courteous and are focused on making the transportation experience safe for all. We specialize in all aspects of transporting behaviorally challenged children and adults. Our staff is trained in abuse / neglect prevention and reporting, basic first aid, CPR, and only the safest driving methods.
Job Summary:
Drivers for Connecticut Transportation Solutions have the primary responsibility for ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of children and staff during transportation to and from various locations throughout the state. All of our drivers must have either a V or F endorsement and must pass all required background checks, verification and credentialing processes. In addition, this position requires a Smartphone device.
Job Responsibilities:
Safety:
Follows all company policies, state, and federal laws and regulations to ensure the safety and well-being of children and adults being transported.
Completes a comprehensive written inspection of the vehicles daily (DVIR), reporting any conditions of concern to the Manager, or delegated staff person, before transporting children.
Ensures that any safety equipment is in proper working order before each trip.
Ensures all students are in appropriate safety restraints at all times during transportation.
Identifies those persons authorized by the parents/guardians to receive the children. Delivers children only to the authorized persons
Follows procedures to guarantee no child is left alone without adult supervision at any time.
Follows all safety procedures developed for the specific needs of the child.
Vehicle Operations
Ensures that the vehicle always has sufficient fuel and gives regular updates on required maintenance being due.
Follows efficient and safe transportation routes that ensures the child will arrive safely and on time as directed by Manager.
Operates vehicles in such a way that road and safety regulations are always followed. Reports any traffic violations to the Manager immediately.
Keeps the vehicle clean and free of debris; follows other vehicle cleaning procedures.
In the event of an accident, follows all procedures; assures that medical emergency procedures are followed; completes a written accident report as required by CTS policy and the authorities.
Administration and Documentation
Routinely inventories vehicle emergency and first aid supplies and equipment, reports any needs to the Manager.
Completes and turns in paperwork including vehicle inspection reports (DVIR), and any other documentation necessary.
Attends and participates in center pre-service and in-service trainings, and other continuing education, career and professional development opportunities.
Performs other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.
Must possess a V or F endorsement on a current valid drivers license.
Successful experience in student transportation preferred.
Ability to pass a background check and Department of Childrens and Families (DCF) credentialing.
Must possess a smartphone.
Knowledge of the challenges and care involved in cognitive disorders, mental illness, and autism.
