GE Aerospace Turbine Airfoil Design and Manufacturing Integration Engineer in West Chester, Ohio

Job Description Summary

This Lead Engineer design position will integrate advanced mechanical design concepts and state-of-the-art additive manufacturing techniques to mature novel designs, materials, and processes for the design of turbine blade airfoils for application in a GE Edison Works Advanced Military Engine New Product Initiative (NPI) Program.

This role will report to the engine program turbine module design manager and also serve as an "engineer-in-shop" within GE Aerospace's Advanced Technology organization at the West Chester, OH site. In this design manufacturing integration role, the engineer will work within the turbine blade design team to demonstrate technical solutions that meet program requirements and milestones. This role will deliver significant impact to both short term and long term business goals.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

As a Design Engineer, you will:

  • Be on the leading edge of advanced turbine airfoil design, materials, additive methods, and casting paradigms.

  • Execute the mechanical design, analysis, and evaluation of hardware produced using additive manufacturing.

  • Apply best practices in hardware design and integrate with adjacent hardware and the engine system.

  • Work to ensure Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC) while applying scientific principles, engineering tools, and lean methods.

  • Support and execute on technical roadmaps or test plans that expand design, material, and process capabilities and limits. Follow, improve, and invent standards to ensure quality results.

  • Support and contribute to producibility evaluations including reviews and establishment of best practices. Assist in defining requirements for producible designs.

  • Manage project schedules across a cross-functional team.

  • Coordinate cross-functional projects and present outcomes to technical and business leaders.

  • Engage with supply chain on the industrialization of components produced using additive manufacturing.

  • Maintain awareness of the competitive landscape and the factors that differentiate your technology area.

  • Be connected to the details of the additive manufacturing process and work closely with the team at our development facilities.

  • Document lessons and new standards in the established archival systems.

  • Participate in program reviews and prepare invention disclosures where appropriate.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, from an accredited university or college.

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in design engineering

  • Relevant experience in design engineering, materials science and engineering, process development, and/or industry

  • Able to work in-person and on-site (not virtual or remote) >75% of the time

  • Some local travel between sites will be required

  • Ability obtain and maintain a US Government Security Clearance at the SECRET level.

Desired Characteristics

  • 3 years or more experience in materials engineering, application, or manufacturing process development.

  • Experience with design or development for turbomachinery hot section components

  • Demonstrated GD&T experience

  • Technical depth in additive manufacturing

  • Comfortable working hands-on in development lab, manufacturing pilot line, or full rate production environments

  • Established project management skills.

  • Proven facilitation and collaboration skills.

  • Flexible and friendly approach to working in teams.

  • Interest in being a self-starter with your eye constantly on problem solving and driving solutions.

  • Highly-motivated, passionate and exceptional communication skills .

  • The ability to work independently, yet the courage and inclusiveness to ask questions of others when help is needed or a problem arises.

  • Keen listener and innate drive to succeed.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications :
