WestRock Company Paper Machine Superintendent in West Point, Virginia

Opportunity: As the Paper Machine Superintendent, youwill have overall responsibility for the personnel, safety, environmentalimpact, quality, cost, and performance for the paper machine within the millfacility. In this position you will lead and coordinate efforts and activitiesutilizing your knowledge and experience to achieve key performance metrics thatsupport overall mill goals.

How you will impact WestRock:

  • Lead and direct paper machine daily operations in asafe and orderly manner to achieve quality and productivity goals

  • Coordinate production activities with productionplanning, maintenance, and quality control to obtain optimum production andutilization of personnel, machines, and equipment

  • Partner with Plant Safety Manager to maintain and enforce the safety program for the department, ensuring compliance with OSHA and WestRock regulations and guidelines

  • Manage environmental efforts to ensure compliancewith regulations and permit requirements, including but not limited to fiberloss, spills, and water usage

  • Manage quality efforts to ensure product performancemeets customer expectations and adherence to ISO program requirements

  • Partner with mill maintenance groups to ensureefficient troubleshooting, planning, and execution of routine repairs for thestock prep, paper machine, and winder areas

  • Oversee planning, scheduling, and execution of millmaintenance outages for stock prep, paper machine, and winder areas

  • Provide input and oversight for annual outageplanning and coordination, ensure the annual outage for area of responsibilityis completed on time and within budget

  • Review and analyze production reports to determine opportunityareas and implement solutions for production problems and nonconformity withproduct specifications

  • Prepare and submit reports as required by the Paper MillManager.

  • Collaborate with and assist the Paper Mill Managerin the development and implementation of operating methods and proceduresdesigned to eliminate operating problems and improve product quality

  • Revise production schedules and priorities as neededbecause of equipment failure, operating problems, or last-minute customerdemands

  • Lead and manage to support the mill vision, culturalchange process, and strategic approach to improve operational and humanperformance

  • Collaborate and assist the Paper Mill Manager withdevelopment of annual budgets and standards for cost measurement

  • Lead and manage employee accountability and labor relations with direct and indirect reports through coordination and consultation with Human Resources and Paper Mill Manager.

  • Partner with Human Resource Manager to ensure properhandling of employee relations issues in accordance with Divisional andCorporate policies and procedures

  • Determine training needs and administer appropriate training programs for hourly employees

  • Collaborate and assist the Paper Mill Manager in thestrategic and capital planning processes for the department.

  • Establish individual and group goals and evaluatework performance for direct reports.

What you need to succeed:

  • Experience implementing safety initiatives

  • Proven track record of leadership and project management skills leveraged to enable employees to achieve goals and objectives
