Friends University seeks applicants for a full-time tenure-track faculty
position in Music/applied Voice with duties beginning August 2024. This
position is a nine-month appointment, and reports to the Division of
Fine Arts Chair.

EXPECTATIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will provide leadership for the vocal program
at Friends University. This includes oversight and planning for the
following: weekly studio class for the program, coordinating vocal
adjuncts, participation in state and regional NATS, vocal juries, and
submission of scenes to NOA/attending the conference, etc. The
successful candidate will supervise all instructors in the vocal area,
teach private voice to undergraduate voice majors, minors (possibly
non-majors), and lead the opera program. Other assignments may include
teaching Diction, Vocal Pedagogy, Vocal Song Literature, and
coaching/music directing opera, depending on the candidates strengths
and interests.
Duties will also include actively recruiting and retaining undergraduate
students, advising current voice students (BM, BA), fulfilling committee
assignments, and participating in activities supported by the division.
In addition, participation in professional organizations is desired as
well as maintaining an active performance profile.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Terminal Degree.
Record of successful undergraduate studio teaching and professional
activity as an educator and performer.
Minimum two-years of higher-ed teaching experience.
Experience directing opera.
Evidence of strong organizational skills.
Experience with recruiting, retaining, and advising students.
Strong written and verbal communication skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Open to all voice types.
Strong knowledge of song literature, opera, and musical theatre
repertoire.
Ability to teach CCM vocal styles (Musical Theatre, pop, etc.) in
addition to classical.
