Insight Global Environmental Coordinator in Winfield, West Virginia

Job Description

The Environmental Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the implementation of environmental compliance programs, permit requirements, and corporate environmental policies, standards, procedures and strategic environmental goals within their assigned region, plant and project scope.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Assisting with the implementation of environmental permits, plans, regulatory, contractual, and policy requirements.

  • Attending meetings as requested.

  • Conducting location specific environmental compliance oversight of Owner Work sites. Documenting and submitting findings to Owner.

  • Assisting with research, documentation, education, etc., for environmental related events or violations.

  • Performing environmental oversight across service area with limited, if any, advance notice.

  • Performing project-related document reviews such as Project Specific Environmental Plans.

  • Presenting and communicating expectations and requirements associated with environmental permits, rules and regulations to contractors performing work for Owner.

  • Providing support to Owner's construction representatives for implementation of environmental requirements associated with work.

  • Monitoring construction sites for environmental compliance throughout construction on all environmental programs (e.g., erosion and sediment controls, fugitive dust, waste management, wetland protection, etc.) until the environmental responsibilities with the work are met or are turned over to the Owner's responsible person(s).

  • Participating and representing Owner, if requested, in agency inspections and communicating results to Owner.

  • Monitoring and ensuring field markings, and established buffer zones for wetlands and waterways and other sensitive areas are maintained.

  • Providing support to Owner's avian program specialist via site reconnaissance.

  • Monitoring compliance with incidental take permit as requested by Owner.

  • Implementing Owner's Contractor Environmental Requirements Document and Standards as it applies to the Work.

  • Conducting site investigations (in coordination with Owner) for scoping of sampling plans, permits and studies.

  • Providing assistance with Environmental Site Investigations (ESIs) for property purchases, leases, and sales as requested by Owner. In some cases, providing field support with Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments.

  • Performing pre-excavation assessments in stations and at T- Line tower locations where construction activities will occur, conducting sampling as agreed upon in sampling plan with Owner (work could include sampling for PCBs, TPH, metals and other hazardous substances).

  • Arranging for used oil and electrical equipment disposal from stations, in coordination with SC Procurement Transmission, as directed by Owner.

  • Providing oversight and arranging for the disposal of contaminated soil, concrete, ground water, and other special or hazardous wastes from construction or demolition sites. This includes characterizing the wastes, overseeing waste shipments and ensuring that shipment documents are properly signed and returned by the vendor in a timely manner.

  • Performing Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) surveys and inspections of new and existing facilities, and submitting the necessary paperwork with Owner.

  • Arranging for or conducting asbestos surveys as directed by Owner. Arranging abatement and waste disposal, obtaining abatement and air monitoring quotes, submitting bids for Work Authorizations to Project Manager, overseeing abatement activities, and coordinating notifications for asbestos abatement projects.

  • Overseeing the demolition of existing and newly acquired structures as directed. This work may involve obtaining quotes, preparing Work Authorizations, providing oversight, coordinating regulatory notifications, arranging for the collection and disposal of hazardous wastes, and closure of site wells and/or septic systems.

Skills and Requirements

* High School Diploma or GED with 2-3 years of environmental experience required

* Must be able to travel to project site on a weekly basis, remote position when not traveling

* Basic understanding of the following environmental programs:

  • NPDES General Construction Permits, along with NWP and individual 404/401 Permits,

  • Construction Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans and sediment and erosion controls,

  • Groundwater and drinking water protection

  • Wetland delineations,

  • Rare, threatened, and endangered species habitats,

  • Aboveground and underground storage tanks,

  • Transportation of hazardous materials,

  • Solid and hazardous waste management,

  • Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures,

  • Oil and chemical spill response and management,

  • Air emissions monitoring, control and reporting,

  • Asbestos and PCB management,

  • Pollution prevention,

  • Environmental site assessments, and

  • Emergency planning, and community right-to-know. Degree in Environmental Science null
