Job Description

SUMMARY:

Assists Facilities Manager in repairing and maintaining machinery, equipment, physical structures, plumbing and electrical systems of industrial establishment by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

  • Performs all preventative maintenance and scheduled and non-scheduled repairs as assigned by work order.

  • Visually inspects and tests machinery and equipment. Ensures that all safety devices are installed and operational.

  • Listens for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunction and discusses machine operation variations with supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problem or repair machine.

  • Dismantles machines or equipment, replaces defective parts and motors, and adjusts equipment as necessary.

  • Cleans and lubricates machine parts such as shafts, pulleys, gears, and bearings. Replaces or repairs machine belts.

  • Removes dust, dirt, grease, and waste material from machines.

  • Paints machines or equipment to prevent corrosion.

  • Bends and cuts conduit and wire, and drills holes in walls, floors, and ceilings for electrical connections.

  • Bends, cuts, and threads pipe, cuts openings in walls, ceilings, and floors for pipes, and seals pipe joints with sealing compound.

  • Connects wire to motors, fixtures, and other electrical equipment, replaces switches and fuses, and splices wire and insulates wire with friction tape.

  • Installs and repairs electrical apparatus, such as transformers and wiring, and electrical and electronic components of machinery and equipment.

  • Cuts out and joins parts for worktables, benches, shelves, partitions and other furnishings. May have to fabricate and repair the same.

  • Patches or replaces plaster or plaster board and paints walls, ceilings, and trim of building as well as repairing other physical structures of the establishment.

  • Clears clogged drains and replaces plumbing fixtures.

  • Operates cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.

  • Requests materials, tools, and supplies through a purchasing agent after getting the proper authorization.

  • Cleans work area, tools, and equipment. Performs other routine duties.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.

  • 3+ years of Electrical/mechanical training or related work experience.

  • Knowledgeable in lockout/tagout procedures.

  • Must be able to trouble shoot equipment, facility issues, and processes.

  • Must be able to organize and complete assigned projects.

  • Must have some level of familiarity with HAZMAT protocol, OSHA, and EHS issues.

  • Able to climb ladders and/or work on lifts. (30 ft max)

  • Basic level of computer skills

  • Must be capable of moving heavy objects either manually or with equipment

  • Handyman skills

  • U.S. Person required for this position, includes but is not limited to, U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents

Required Skills:

  • Electrical Knowledge and Experience (Single and 3 phase power).

  • Carpentry Skills and Experience.

  • Building Maintenance Experience.

  • Plumbing Skills and Experience.

  • Experienced with using hand and power tools safely .

  • Mechanical Aptitude and adaptability to various situations

  • Reasonable Capability to Make Necessary Repairs to Facility, Equipment, or Machinery.
