Nevada Copper Senior Mining Engineer (Underground) in Yerington, Nevada

Nevada Copper (TSX:NCU) is a copper producer and owner of the Pumpkin Hollow copper project. Located in Nevada, USA, Pumpkin Hollow has substantial reserves and resources including copper, gold and silver. Its two fully permitted projects include the high-grade underground mine and processing facility, which is now in the production stage, and a large-scale open pit project, which is advancing towards feasibility status.

Purpose of the Position:

The Senior Mining Engineer is responsible for all mine engineering activities in support of the successful operation of Nevada Copper, as well as development of related engineering standards and processes.

Responsibilities will include leading the Mine Engineering Team, including Engineers and Technicians, covering multiple engineering disciplines. This position will also provide expert technical guidance for the mine engineering discipline for operations and project works.

Accountability:

The Senior Mining Engineer reports to the Chief Mine Engineer on all aspects of administrative and technical operations.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Technical Support:

  • Provision of experienced advice to the operation as well as to technical staff

  • Reviewer and approver of all mine engineering work

  • Mentoring of junior staff and other technical staff as required

  • Development and implementation of mine planning, engineering and related systems and standards

  • Ensure short-range plans achieve long-range and / or business objectives

  • Coordination and delivery of long range and life of mine plans and reserves

  • Work with other departments to identify risk and create mitigation actions

  • Create extensive plans for the monthly, three-to-twenty-four-month horizon through design and scheduling updates and innovative solutions

  • Ensure timely and quality delivery of level and related mine plans

    Technical Work:

  • Development of mine plans as required to support short- and long-term business needs (e.g., 5-year mine plan, Life of Mine plan)

  • Assist the Chief Engineer with the site mineral finance / cost model

  • Collaborate in the development of CAPEX and OPEX forecasts and variance reporting.

  • Responsible for delivering monthly production reconciliations

  • Execution of select projects and support of others’ projects

  • Development and communication of mine plans and strategies to support evaluation and senior management decision-making regarding risk and value profiles of mine plans.

    Knowledge/ Education:

    The incumbent must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:

  • Bachelor of Science or advanced degree in Mining Engineering

  • Minimum of seven (7) to ten (10) years’ experience in Technical Services experience in underground mining environment preferred.

  • Previous mining construction and / or start-up experience well regarded

  • Advanced user of mine planning software (Deswik preferred)

  • Experience in underground mine planning

  • Experience in long-hole open and sub-level stoping planning, drilling and blasting

  • Experience in paste and rock backfilling of stopes

  • Mine dewatering and grouting experience well regarded

  • Familiarity with CIM and SME mineral reserve and resource reporting standards

  • Development and maintenance of mineral finance / cost models

  • Experience with Integrated Business Planning cycles

  • Material reconciliation experience from the Face to the Mill

    Skills/ Abilities:

    The incumbent must demonstrate the following skills:

  • Short-range mine planning, including level planning through to Cut Sheet development

  • Integrated long-range mine planning using mine planning software

  • Strong technical and communication skills

  • Estimation of underground Mineral Reserves and Resources

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills

  • Ability to analyze data and generate recommendations for improvement

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and active listening skills

  • Ability to facilitate, collaborate and interact with individuals and groups

    Physical Demands:

  • Lift and carry up to 50 - 70 lbs. in weight

  • Operate a vehicle with a valid driver’s license

  • Stand and sit for extended periods of time

  • Stay alert during periods of inactivity

  • Walk on uneven ground

    Work Schedule and Personal Protective Equipment:

    The incumbent will be required to work a 40 hour per week schedule. Position may require weekend or evening work depending on organizational and operational requirements. Ability to work extended hours as operational needs require to support projects. Self-selected clothes are required for protection in an underground work environment.
