Nevada Copper Training Specialist in Yerington, Nevada

Nevada Copper (TSX:NCU) is a copper producer and owner of the Pumpkin Hollow copper project. Located in Nevada, USA, Pumpkin Hollow has substantial reserves and resources including copper, gold, and silver. Its two fully permitted projects include the high-grade underground mine and processing facility, which is now in the production stage, and a large-scale open pit project, which is advancing towards feasibility status.

Job Description:

The Training Specialist is responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of the Nevada Copper Learning Management System to effectivity and efficiently execute training and learning requirements that support the goals and objectives of the company. This includes conducting onboarding training, developing training content and materials, performing field assessments of miners engaged in tasks and equipment operation, conducting site tours on the surface and underground, and administrating the digital learning management platform.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implement and maintain the Nevada Copper digital Learning Management System (LMS) for company and regulatory training compliance

  • Create training curriculums and programs to facilitate the execution of field-based competency training for underground miners, contractors, and site visitors

  • Conduct skills gap analysis to support operations by evaluating and providing recommendations on training and certification needs by crew

  • Develop and update MSHA Part 48 training plans as necessary and work with external regulators on requirements and approvals

  • Conduct certification evaluations and routine assessments of miners performing tasks or operating equipment to ensure continued task and operational competency

  • Work with internal stakeholders and external business partners to schedule and facilitate training sessions

  • Ensure the document control and organization of the Nevada Copper LMS

  • Work with HR and Operations to create, implement, and track individual development plans within the LMS

  • Support training of the underground Mine Rescue team in accordance with MSHA Part 49 requirements

  • Collaborate with Team members to analyze and solve complex problems through fit for purpose solutions

    Qualifications and Experience:

  • 3-5+ years mining experience, underground experience preferred

  • Comprehensive understanding of training and documentation requirements under MSHA Part 48

  • Demonstrated experience in the development, implementation, and management of training systems

  • Previous experience with Learning Management Systems and Competency Based Training requirements

  • Prior experience with underground Mine Rescue preferred

  • Experience with and understanding of regulatory systems including: MSHA, NAC H&S Standards, BATFE

    Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication and influencing skills

  • Proficiency using computers and digital platforms such as the Microsoft suite, Kahoot!, etc.

  • Experience in coaching/consulting with company stakeholders and business partners

  • Excellent organizational, time management, and prioritization skills

  • Ability to provide in-depth and comprehensive training to all levels of NCI and business partner employees

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously and be self-motivated to accomplish goals

  • Proficient with computer programs and systems such as the Microsoft Office Suite

  • MSHA certified trainer (Blue Card) for Surface and Underground

    Physical Demands:

    The incumbent must demonstrate the following physical demands:

  • Lift and potentially carry up to 50-70 lbs.

  • Operate a vehicle with a valid driver’s license

  • Climb stairwells and be capable of working on elevated platforms

  • Walk on uneven ground

  • Periodically work in adverse weather conditions

  • Sit for extended periods of time

  • Stay alert during periods of inactivity

  • The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs.

  • The ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hand, and wrists.

    Work Schedule and Personal Protective Equipment:

    The incumbent work schedule is typically 8 days on/6 days off, rotating on Wednesdays and subject to change based on business needs. Ability to work extended hours as operational needs require to support projects. Personal Protective Equipment required for the fieldwork portion of this position includes, but is not limited to, hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed boots. All equipment must be MSHA approved as applicable.
