Nevada Copper Underground Construction Miner in Yerington, Nevada

Nevada Copper (TSX:NCU) is a copper producer and owner of the Pumpkin Hollow copper project. Located in Nevada, USA, Pumpkin Hollow has substantial reserves and resources including copper, gold and silver. Its two fully permitted projects include the high-grade underground mine and processing facility, which is now in the production stage, and a large-scale open pit project, which is advancing towards feasibility status.

Summary of Position:

The Underground Construction Miner is responsible for safely operating equipment will be working in an underground production zone.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist other mine workers in maintaining or constructing underground installations

  • Clean underground rooms, roadways, working areas, mining equipment and conveyances using hand & power tools

  • Load, move, sort and pile materials and supplies

  • Operation of underground haulage equipment, AD 30 haul trucks, Cat 1600 LHD’s, Cat 1700 LHD’s

  • Take ownership in and accountability for maintaining safe work practices, safe, respectful workplace, and safe operation and maintenance of equipment

  • Installing utilities, hanging power cable, vent fans and vent bag

  • Able to operate Shotcrete equipment

  • Operation of underground support equipment, i.e., skid steers, forklifts, manlifts and other equipment as needed

  • Understands how to and can install ground support.

    Experience and Training:

  • A minimum of one (1) year underground mining required

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.

  • Ability to work safely and effectively in an underground mining environment required

  • Perform and document work area inspections and equipment inspection/ operation cards

  • Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate with the ability of communicating with others be it verbal, written, handheld radios, mine radios, cap lamp signals or any other type of communication necessary for the safe completion of the task

  • Ability to work within a team environment, work closely with peers at all levels with a professional attitude required

    Work Environment:

    The work environment characteristics describe here are representative of those an employee encounters will performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may work in extreme cold/hot conditions, occasionally exposed fumes or airborne particles, chemicals, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high, appropriate hearing protection may be needed and required.

    Health and Safety:

    Expected to always wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while in a production environment (hard hat, safety belt, self-rescue respiratory device, steel toed boats/metatarsal protection, reflective visible clothing) or as required for a specific job duty. Ensure that all safety procedures and regulatory guidelines are followed. Support the site safety culture through leadership and regularly engaging with and holding the workforce accountable for safe work practices. Participate in health and safety meetings and risk reviews as required.

    Physical and Mental Demands and Requirements:

    This position is required to work in an underground and surface environment. The incumbent must be able to:

  • Lift and carry up to 50-75 lbs. in weight

  • Periodically work in environmental extremes (i.e., hot or cold weather)

  • Sit for extended periods of time

  • Standing for extended periods of time

  • Working in confined space at times

  • Stay alert during periods of inactivity

  • Walk on uneven and poorly lit ground

  • Work independently on a rotating day shift/night shift

    Work Schedule and Personal Protective Equipment:

    The incumbent work schedule is typically a rotating schedule. During the initial ramp up, additional work time will be required to meet the goals and objectives of the business. Personal Protective Equipment required for the field work portion of this position includes, but is not limited to, hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed boots. All equipment must be MSHA approved as applicable.
